Ward

  • I admit that I am very nervous about the hire and would have liked too see us go for a proven guy. Our D is the main reason we have turned the corner and hope he's the right guy. That said..... I'm happy for him and he's got my support .

  • Spurrier better be ready to score 40 per game.

I am not a huge fan of the move, but I hope and pray that Ward proves me wrong over the next few years. What is imperative, in my opinion, is that the HBC surround him with the best staff possible. There is one change that needs to be made on D.Wink link as a coach and recruiter. HBC needs to hire a proven sec recruiter for the LB job that can flat out coach.

SOS only has 3 years or so left to cement his legacy at Carolina. I would have preferred a more proven DC and keep Ward in his present role. Whammy is finally flourishing as a recruiter, I would hate to see a decline in that Atlanta area due to his promotion.

Time will tell if this is the right move or not. I hope it is.

This is one thing that is confusing to me.

A lot of folks are praising the move because of recruiting. Well, he can't do as much recruiting now.

Keith my biggest concern is if Ward can make the adjustments especially in the second half. That was one of EJ's best attributes as a DC. Recognizing how to stop the run and adjusting on the fly during the game.

    And that's a valid concern

I agree. In-game adjustments were definitely one of EJ's strengths as a coach. It is a risky move and will either pay huge dividends on the field and in recruiting, or we take a step back the next few years on D. One thing about the HBC though, is he is quick DC the hook if it is not going to his liking.

I will say that if Gilmore and Taylor come back, the D should be stellar. Biggest concern will be finding that other DT to play along side Kelcy.

  • I agree. Not happy at all and very nervous. Everyone says "trust the visor". Besides Shaw we haven't been able to trust a quarterback under SOS yet and that was the one position we ALL thought we'd be the best at when we hired him. However, all I care about is winning and if running the zone read for here on out wins games that's fine with me. I just don't like the DC hire.

Clemson fan, I have been called worse, but not much.

I am not a CowU fan. I just don't see this being a great hire. You hire good position coaches that are great recruiters. your DC and OC have to be great coaches and I just don't think Ward is. I hope that I am wrong, and I am willing to give him a chance.

The real USC is the one that didn't finish in the top 25. The real Carolina is Academic Fraud U. South Carolina back to back Top 10. Got it.

  • I think it is a good move. The players trust him, he is a great recruiter so he has good people skills. He has been with the team awhile and knows the schemes that we run and I think he can and will execute them very well.

He may have not been the big name hire per se but I think. It was a good educated promotion by Spurrier.

Seems we have questioned several hires by Spurrier, but they have worked out better than expected. Go Gamecocks!
