Weaknesses on our football team this year????

  • After reading Cockstar's Post about the Punter we are Possibly going after, and the comment about Punter being about the only position one the posters was worried about.........So.......Is there any visible weakness on our football team this year???? I mean we can ALWAYS use more depth, and some Positions are Still Uncertain (mainly with the Kicking game) but we've got some recruits coming in to fill them, and it seems like where we were weak(Thin) Last year (QB(beginning of the year), O-Line, Secondary, Punting) we are going to have the bodies to fill with.......and it also seems like Several Players are going to be in their "Natural" positions this year??

He accepted a preferred walk-on and is going to be a Gamecock......no longer going after him, we got him.

  • All SEC potential - QB, RB,DE.
Solid SEC - WR, OL, CB
Unproven - DL, LB, S, Special Teams.

  • I think it is clearly WR. Alshon is going to be huge shoes to fill. I love Ace. Kid is a great WR with excellent hands and speed. He also has experience. But right now, he's the only WR that has that proven experience.
Bruce showed signs last season. So did Byrd, These guys are going to have to step up and be a player.
All these guys are short, fast guys.
Other than that, it's going to have to come from a redshirt freshman or true freshman.

Let me add....there is tons of potential at this position. I'm looking forward to the competition. This could be Spurrier Jr's most rewarding season of coaching!

Unproven DL? Everyone is projecting us to have possibly the best DL in the SEC this year, and for good reason. MAYBE depth on DL, but compared to most years past, there is nothing to complain about on the DL.

    Spurrier...I appreciate him plenty

  • WR, some rust at DB with Akeem and Swagg coming off injuries, OT, FB.

I agree but in this order.

    P/PK
DB depth - specifically safety depth.
    2nd DT and DT depth
    OL - youth
WR - tons of talent, just needs to step up.

Not real worried about WR. Too much talent for no one to step up and produce.

OL, shells inexperience at LT concerns me

Depth behind Jerideau and Kelcy concerns me

Hopefully our second safety will be solid, and we can find a solid second team of safeties.

Not real worried about CB with Akeem, VHamp, Ahmad, shaw, etc... As long as they stay healthy.

Our punt game sucks, # 1 concern is special teams IMO

Assuming Matulis comes back ready I think we will be alright as long as they stay healthy. But yeah, there could be some growing pains.

  • LT - Shell is very talented, but he's a RS freshmen.

WR- need to replace AJ's production.

New coaches - what do we know at this point?

Injuries - there are some relatively thin positions

Good thing we have an easy start to the schedule at Vandyblank

We need Shaq to come in and produce. More pressure on him than there has been on an incoming freshman WR in a while, maybe ever.

Alshon had to play well as a freshman.

Recently, Gilmore probably had the most pressure. He HAD to play and he HAD to produce.

I think Alshon's play was more of a bonus. Back then our only expectation was to win 8 games. Now we expect to return to ATL and we don't have a go-to outside WR.

Agree with Gilmore. He was so good! I'll always remember his first game against NCSU when he broke up a TD or two. Stud.

  • I think our biggest concerns are running back and tight end

    I kid I kid.

We could use a stud FB. I'm not worried about the secondary one bit. Nor the D-line. Nor the linebackers. The D-line has some of the best starting talent and the best coach in the country. The secondary is full of ballers. Akeem will be fine and so will Jungle Boi Swagg. Not worried about Williams, nor Hampton. I think Hampton is going to be a guy that people could consider a first rounder when his time comes. Linebackers... they're all seniors. I don't care if they're the best, but they can all play and they know the defense. They'll be where they need to be. They'll be fine. The O-line worries me the most. They'll be talented, sure, but not experienced... in the SEC. That's what worries me. The QB situation will be fine. Connor is going to be great, and Thompson I seriously think is a viable backup. And hell, after summer, McEvoy might be #2 and I think has the potential to be awesome. WR, we'll have plenty of guys to choose from and no one will be able to double cover 4 receivers. I think not having an Alshon is a plus, especially with the depth at RB.

    Miami here we come!

  • My Question marks are

    New Coaches, and their roles
    #1 Wr
    DB and depth behind Db
    OL.

Like others have said, We have a good/great team. We just have to put it all together and prove it on the field.
