What sucks worse... to be Jimmy Clausen or a Panthers fan?

Ha. Denver has a D. Panthers have some bodies out there.

Doesn't matter if you win 35-32 or 13-10, it's all about the "W"

Of course it is. But football is also a team sport.

  • I can tell you as a casual NFL fan who pulls for the Panthers that this team is 100X better than last year. I don't need to look up stats to see what's right in front of me. This team can win with a couple of more pieces to the puzzle and have been in every game they played except for a couple. Last year they were an absolute joke and I don't think I watched 1 game past the midpoint of the season because it just made me mad.

The person I feel bad for in all this (even though he's a douche) is Jimmy Clausen. With all the injuries the Panthers had last year he was basically thrown into the fire with exactly zero weapons on offense and an o-line made up of 2nd and 3rd stringers they were signing off of other team's practice squads. Did he suck? Yes. Did any or all of that have to do with the team around him? I don't know. At some point I hope he gets another chance just because I think he got sharted on.

  • Anyone judging his performance this year should also factor in the 600 yards rushing and 13 rushing TD's. Put those numbers with his passing stats and he's top 5 in the league in yards and TD's I'm guessing. For the record, I was not happy with the pick initially.

The rug really tied the room together, did it not?

  • I will readily admit that I was wrong a/b $Cam. He's infinitely better than I ever thought he could be. Still, Panther fans vastly overrate where he is presently. He's had a remarkable rookie season, but there are several QBs in both leagues that rank above him. In time, he may pass them, but for now accept reality: he's much better than most thought, but he still has a lot to prove to become an "elite" QB. And frankly, I still wonder if his "me first" mentality will at some point wear thin on his teammates. Time will tell...

  • Living here in Charlotte and hearing on a daily basis all the scuttlebut surrounding the Cam show, there are not too many fans putting him in "elite" status. Most recognize him for what he is, a talent who has had a fantastic rookie campaign. He still has a ways to go with decision making before he can be considered elite and most recognize that. For most of the season he was not involving the running backs and opting to improvise. Whether this was his or the coaches decision, things have changed the last couple of weeks and he has started letting the backs become involved in the game. He still takes to many negative plays and he throws ill-advised passes frequently. To be expected of a rookie. As a first year player, he will go down as having one of the greatest, if not the greatest, rookie campaigns in history. With 18 yards passing this coming weekend, he breaks Peyton Manning's rookie record for yards passing. The guess is he will do it and add to that record a few hundred yards. They have won 3 out of 4 and seem to be learning how to win in the 4th quarter, despite the most injury riddled defense in the league. 5-9 is nothing to write home about but in this case, it is definately showing positive signs.

Now if only my Redskins could show some life. Although they did sweep the Giants this past weekend. Don't win too much....we need one of the top QB's in this year's draft. Thnking possibly Matt Barkley from USC.

They just drafted a guy who is just has major bust potential and wasted last years picks on Clausen and Edwards. I guess at least Jimmy gets paid. Panthers fans have to pay for both of them for years to come.

No one knows it yet, but they wasted a pick on scam Newton as well. His selfishness and attitude will ruin his potential before its said and done. He will never win a championship at Carolina.

  • Who did the panthers draft that has "major bust potential"?

I disagree. Just yesterday, for what seems like the thirtieth day in a row, FNZ was promoting him for the Pro Bowl. And many callers were calling in advocating that he should be a Pro Bowler. He's not a Pro Bowl QB, at least not yet.

    blessedcock

  • Agree, he is not a pro bowler after one year. Believe the likes of Rodgers, Brees and Stafford would be in front of him. As for FNZ.....that is the Panther bandwagon there......not a good representation of "most" Panther fans.

  • It's funny somebody bumped this thread because I was just thinking about it the other day. Lots of crow to be eaten in this thread. People need to wake up & realize that Cam is a ROOKIE in the NFL on a team that had the worst record last year. He's had a helluva a year for a ROOKIE & will only get better. As a Panthers fan, I am ecstatic about the future of the franchise. We finally have a franchise QB & now we gotta put some more pieces around him & build that defense back up. He's the truth & sooner or later people will realize this.

It's gotten to the pt where I can't bear to listen. It's a Panthers/$Scam daily slurpfest.

  • Funny how you failed to mention his record number of RUSHING td's in all of your "facts"

  • Sure is fun getting you all riled up this morning. This about a guy you all know took the money and embarrassed us on National TV.

I could care less about Cam or the Panthers.

Let's pull this thread back up in 5 years and look at his body then.

Since you mentioned the facts here they are.

Last year Panthers stats vs this year.

    2010 2011

    1st dwns- 225 304 3rd % 69/227= %30 75/174= %43 Total Yds- 4135 5503 Pass Yds- 2289 3529 Tds- 17 40 Pts 12.2 24.4 Record 2-14 5-9

And they still have two games left to play.

I say that's pretty good body of work. You mention the 17 tds and 16 ints but you don't say anything about the 13 rushing tds. So he has accounted for 30 tds this year compared to 17 tds by the whole team last year. They were last in the league at 12.2 pts a game last year compared to 5th this year at 24.4.

The most amazing thing about these stats are as you mentioned hes playing on a 5-9 team that had the number one draft pick bc they were the worst team last year. Although I do agree Steve Smith is an awesome wr his other wr are neverheardofhim?

    nice...

Andy Dalton is a rookie too. He plays in the toughest division in the NFL and has a winning record and was on a team that was the 2nd worst team last year.

    Is he better?

Good pt. I'll also add this, although nowhere near as skilled as $Cam, in watching the "Tebow Soundtracks" on ESPN last night, one thing that stuck out to me was the way Tebow interacted with his teammates, supporting them, encouraging them, picking them up after they made a mistake. I don't know that I've ever seen $Cam do that on the sidelines. From what I've seen, he mostly sits/stands by himself with a towel over his head. I wonder how that will play over time...

Blessed I only posted in this thread because I knew so many would start crying about their beloved $CAM NEWTON. As I expected they did.

I will take the action for all the Panthers fans on the 2012 campaign. I say you won't make the playoffs again. Who wants the action? I don't want excuses, I want BILLZPAID!
