What sucks worse... to be Jimmy Clausen or a Panthers fan?

    Blessed I only posted in this thread because I knew so many would start crying about their beloved $CAM NEWTON. As I expected they did.

    I will take the action for all the Panthers fans on the 2012 campaign. I say you won't make the playoffs again. Who wants the action? I don't want excuses, I want BILLZPAID!

    Oh, trust me, as someone living in the area I fully understand. I wonder if they'd rather have Tebow and be fighting for the playoffs or have $Cam and finish below .500 again? I'm pretty sure I know the answer...

    The fact is he has the 22nd overall QB Rating and has thrown the 4th most INT's in the NFL.

    Before everyone starts slapping their ballsacks. How about we look at the body of work.
    He is exciting, Mike Vick was exciting. It never got him to greatness.

    Steve Smith is a big reason Cam has thrown for the yardage this year.

    If Steve Smith is the reason for Cam's rookie success, then why didn't Clausen have the same numbers last year?

    agree. whether I dislike Cam is irrelevant. He has been one of, if not the, top rookie. His passing skills are far ahead of what was anticipated, and he has been the difference (along with the 2 new TEs) in the Panthers offense going from the cellar to the top portion of the league.

    If his Heisman gets taken away and the MNC wiped out, I will be probably be glad, but once he became a Panther it took on a new meaning. I pulled for the panthers before Cam and his joining the Panthers didn't change that, even though I thought it would.

    I never said $CAM wasn't better than Jimmy. Jimmy has never been impressive...seriously, what has he ever done impressive? Beat Navy? Comparing the two is silly.

    Stats wise, Newton has had one hell of a year. They are 5-9 so far this season which is better than last season terrible record. Strictly on stats and they dont lie, he has had( or will have) the best rookie season ever for any position in the NFL. This is strictly based on stats.

    But, stats dont necessarily win you football games. There are other things that do. And one of those is not making costly errors. It also seems like the opposing teams defenses have adjusted well in the second half of games to stop Newton.

    Newton was the main reason the Falcons came back and beat them 2 weeks ago. He threw a costly pick. He was being tackled and he tried to just throw the ball and it went straight to the Falcons D setting up a TD. The Panthers have lost several games in the 4th quarter this year. They should be over 500. Some of that fans on the D. But, some fans on Cam.

    And take the Andy Dalton example. They were 4-12 last year. This year with a rookie QB, they are 7-7 with a great chance at the playoffs. Dalton's numbers are not as good, but I think the record is more important. He has thrown 18 Tds to 13 INT and he plays in a tougher defensive defense. Baltimore and Pitt are much better defensively than NO and Atl. He is not putting up eye-popping stats, but his team is winning and he is not losing games.

    I think Newton has a chance to be good, but it will be up to him. It will also depend on how he plays in the clutch and if he limits his mistakes.

  • Denver has a defense. All you guys arguing that Tebow "Wins" games are silly. Matt Prater wins games and Denvers D is solid. Tim Tebow is a mediocre QB and I don't get the lovefest for the guy

    I think the last game was a goo example that Cam has progressed some in the mistakes / 2nd half issue. Against the top-ranked defense he led a game-cinching drive and made no mental errors. I could be wrong but do not believe he threw a second half INT.

    Cam will be a Pro Bowler for most of his seasons in the league. Next year he may have some additional growing pains but he will be very good for a long time to come.

    Yep. Same applies to Tebow if you ask me. I'll take W's all day long over stats. And look at the wins the Panthers do have. Other than the win over the Texans with a third string QB, have they beaten anyone?

  • Totally agree that he needs to improve on his decision making & some other things, but that will come & he will work to make that happen. He's a winner & wants to be great. He will definitely work.

    He's a winner. That's all there is to it. He's NOWHERE near as "skilled" as other QBs in the league, but he's a winner that instills belief in his teammates and makes them better. Again, would you rather have Tebow and be fighting for a Division title or have $Cam and be 5-9 "waiting until next year?"

  • Andy Dalton also has the 6th ranked defense in the league (that helps win games). I love Tebow & support the hell outta that kid, but if you put Cam on the Broncos then they would probably have a realistic shot at representing the AFC in the Super Bowl.

  • If the coaches chose to do so, they could play a much more conservative style of play and probably have a few more wins this year. I think the plan is to expose Cam to as much as possible this year and try to build the program around him.

    I do not know how successful he will be long term, but there are some pretty reaching arguments being made on both sides of this.

    You don't think Cam makes the people he plays with better too?? Even with a 5-9 record, the difference in this team is evident. From everything I've heard, his teammates all love him & love playing with him.

    I'll give you that & agree about the turnovers. I can't wait to see what he does in year 2 with a real non-lockout offseason to better himself. The turnovers are on him, but they are sort of a byproduct of the aggressive nature of the Panthers offense being run by a rookie QB. If the defense was better, the style of offense would be a little less aggressive IMO.

    He did not throw a pick in the game. He was 13 for 23 for 159 yards and 2 TDs.

    His stats were not very good but he got the W. And I believe both is his TDs were set up by Houston TOs. So, Houston offense didnt help thier defense.

    I think he has a long way to go, but I think he could be something special. But, then I think he could be the next Michael Vick who does well one year and then terrible the next. I think Newton is strong enough to avoid the wear and tear Vick takes, but Newton could be just a stats guy only and not a good leader. I think that is where he is lacking the most right now. He is a not a leader in the huddle. Tebow, Brees, Rodgers, Brady, etc... are all leaders in the huddles. Newton may or may not get there, but I think that will determine if he is elite or not.

    You hit it for me. $CAM is exciting...but he is both good exciting and bad exciting. Will that change? Time will tell in 5 years. ATL fans swore by MIKE VICK MIKE VICK. He was the most exciting player to watch...but he typically underachieved.

    Newton will forever be a me guy. Hard to win in the NFL being a ME guy. Too many studs out there.

    I disagree on that. The NFC South is going to be tough with the Saints and Falcons at the tough of the division. I dont believe they are on the level of those two teams yet. I think they could be 8-8 next year, but until they can prove it, I dont think they will pass up the Falcons and Saints.

    My pipe dream is that the Panthers draft Alshon in the first, Jerel Worthy falls to the second and they pick him up and Janoris Jenkins falls to the third for his puff puff pass routine and the Panthers take him as well. A guy can dream can't he? lol

    I didn't say he didn't make his teammates better. I responded to your comments on Tebow. Denver won 4 games last year, three more than the Panthers. How many games did Denver win before Tebow was given a shot this year? Now he's got his team in the playoff hunt. $Cam doesn't. $Cam has had a remarkable statistical year, one I didn't think he could possibly have. And as far as physical talent, there's no comparison; Tebow isn't in $Cam's class physically. But it's not all a/b stats and how you get there, it's a/b wins and losses.
