Just a differing viewpoint. If you were from, say LSU or Texas A&M, and visited Columbia for a game, would it make sense to you if you walked past this area and someone told you it was called the farmer's market? Keep in mind that the new farmer's market is 5 miles away and most decent sized cities in the Southeast also have farmer's markets. There is nothing unique about that name. I would hope we could come up with something better.

I think we should call it: "The old farmer's markets, that the University bought and turned into a new tailgating parking lot where we planted garnet oaks for color and shade that is located adjacent to Williams Brice Stadium, home of the Gamecocks, across Bluff Road with a Bojangles located at the entrance."
I think that would be unique and catchy and easy to remember.

I like the Farmer's Market. That's what it was and that's what it'll be known by everyone that is alive right now. In 30 years when people born after today are fully grown, then they'll have another name for it or something. But Farmer's Market has been a staple at Carolina tailgates forever. Why change it. We don't have much history or tradition, so let's keep what we do have. And calling it the Garnet Grove is cheap. That's just stealing "The Grove" from Ole Miss. Not cool.

Brrnt. Wrong. How is that not unique? If you can name a tailgating spot in the country at another school called the Farmers Market i'll then agree. Until then its as unique as anyting else in College Football. Btw google Farmers Market Tailgating Football and check out the results....

Farmer's Market or just "The Market".
I think it's very unique for a tailgating spot. It's been the Farmer's Market for decades now. People are always talking about establishing more traditions at USC. Here's a good start.

HISTORY - "The Columbia State Farmers Market began as a small public market on the ground level of the original Columbia town hall. By 1860 at least part of the market had moved west to the center of Assembly Street. During the Depression years, work relief programs of the New Deal resulted in renovation, improvements, and new construction. Part of the WPA resulted in sheds for the Assembly Street market. In 1951, the Market was relocated from Assembly Street to Bluff Road across from Williams-Brice Stadium. Three of the original structures located on Assembly Street were moved to that location. The move cleared Assembly Street of stalls and booths, but the concrete median which remains today symbolizes the market's earlier existence."
