I don't want any name that has "Farmers" in it.

    "The Market" works for me.

Going a little far here bud...I farm, I dont think when people say the word "Farmer" they automatically think of Clemson sorry. Leave it as is.

    FYI I found this at

    http://agriculture.sc.gov/UserFiles/file/csfmbrochure3%281%29.pdf Page 2

HISTORY - "The Columbia State Farmers Market began as a small public market on the ground level of the original Columbia town hall. By 1860 at least part of the market had moved west to the center of Assembly Street. During the Depression years, work relief programs of the New Deal resulted in renovation, improvements, and new construction. Part of the WPA resulted in sheds for the Assembly Street market. In 1951, the Market was relocated from Assembly Street to Bluff Road across from Williams-Brice Stadium. Three of the original structures located on Assembly Street were moved to that location. The move cleared Assembly Street of stalls and booths, but the concrete median which remains today symbolizes the market's earlier existence."

"the concrete median which remains today symbolizes the market's earlier existence." I never knew that.

Good job NCS...that nails it for me...Farmers Market:

I took a quick look at paperwork this afternoon and didnt see a real app for moving there...I think it is opening this year....am I missing something?

  • Garnet Grove or Garnet Way is the best. Farmers Market doesn't scream football tailgating area. Lol

    I agree with you.

Makes me think I probably need to buy corn and green peppers on Saturday vs. tailgating with thousands of friends....

    Garnet Grove on Bluff.......something.

  • Garnet place or garnet game day
    At least garnet market

  • Call it the Farmer's Market and give names to the parking rows, like The Garnet Way, The Spur Blvd.... etc.

  • Against anything with "grove" in it. Unoriginal.

Most certainly. In fact, I'll go a step further and say it's not only unoriginal but it says we don't have the intellectual capability to come up with a unique name. It doesn't have to be anything outlandish, but we can't copy another big time school. Shoot, "the park" would work for me.

Absolutely agree. I don't want "grove" anywhere even remotely close to the name. If we had "grove" in the name, I'd never again be able to destroy Clemson fans for stealing the name of their stadium from LSU.

  • If Latt's wins the Heisman or leads us to an SEC Championship it shall be called "Lattimore Bluff at the Old Farmer's Market."

    Imagine the future...

"Hey, where do tailgate for the football games?"

"Oh, I have a spot in Lattimore Bluff."

  • If people are opposed to "The Farmers Market" because it makes them think of CU or bell peppers, then I think the compromise should just be "The Market". It keeps with tradition and historical ties but doesn't sound too hokey.

The "Garnet Grove" and "Garnet Place" suggestions don't have any character.

  • I tend to agree with many about keeping tradition and just keeping The Farmers Market but if in the spirit of new names what about The Bluff or Palmetto Bluff. Maybe even The Roost.

  • Establishing a new tradition here at USC should be one of winning football games, not leaving the farmers market parking lot with the same name. It's no longer the farmers market. Just seems like that is what clemson would name something. Sorry, we are not a farming school, they are. Why link our football to farming? I don't want anything about USC related to clemson, just like the thread about Bojangles colors being changed from orange to Garnet.

Sounds like we need a naming contest. I'm not too much for The Garnet Grove either.

  • I hope the athletic department doesn't let our fans vote on the naming of "the farmers market" It will be a bigger disaster that when were allowed to vote on the CLA color scheme.

  • If this area was originally called "the fishing pond", apparantly we would have fans wanting to call our tailgate area the fishing pond and rejoicing in how unique that is. Hey, why don't we call it the ice hockey arena. Nobody has a tailgate area called that.
