Who was the AD that follwed Hyman at TCU....

  • that guy hired some really good coaches and made that program even better. The guy there now has been there since 2009, not sure who followed Hyman.

Who did Danny Morrison hire at TCU? I'm legitimately asking, because I don't know. Their two best sports programs (that I've seen) are football and baseball, both of which have had their coaches since Hyman (or perhaps before Hyman) was AD (Patterson was 2000, Schlossnagle was 2003).

  • I've seen Danny Morrison's named mentioned multiple times on the site and from everything I've read he seems to be more than qualified.

I've also seen a couple of folks state that "he would love to come here" and "would definitely take the job if offered." Anyone know why people feel that way? From what I can tell, he attended Wofford and has no real ties to USC other than getting his doctorate here. Is there more to the story with Morrison?

  • Thanks for sharing. Very intetesting article. Sounds like a qualified guy but Tanner deserves the chance to lead our department.

Tanner deserves an interview. He deserves consideration. He deserves to have his resume compared to other applicants. His resume isn't in the same league as Morrison's

  • You don't hire resumes; you hire people.

  • hyman added or provided a detailed plan for virtually every facilities category in which we were lacking. hyman has built this ship and whoever gets the job will be coming into a great situation and really just has to keep it on course.

Definitely agree. He's got us going full steam ahead. Now we have to hire the right person to keep it that way and not screw it up by trying to "put their fingerprints" on everything and make big splashes "just because" they're in charge now. Sadly, that happens often in just about anything. People feel they need to justify their existence and do something that stands out. Most of the "stand out" stuff has already been put into motion. Just keep it rolling I say.

This is true. You can't look at a resume and hire based on that alone. I worked for a lady who would hire people based on a resume she hired a 22 yr old kid gave him a raise told us he was a bar setter and he lasted a month. This is one of 4 bad hires she made cause she hired based on the resume and didn't do back ground work and hire based on resume and results from past jobs. You have to hire based on what they have done and what kind of person they are IMO.

All the more reason that hiring an experienced AD is important. Less need to project job performance.

The resume is a reflection of a person's relevant experience. Are you saying that resumes aren't important?

Based on my experience as a corp headhunter and a business exec, I place very little weight on a resume other than for screening purposes. Hiring is more about people than paper. You find out about people and their abilities by talking to them and to others about them, not reading about them.

I take it you've never hired anyone. A resume is a relevant reflection of someone's history. It's one piece of information to be used when evaluating future employees, certainly not the most important. It's important, but not the end all be all

Certainly seems experienced and checks off a lot of boxes.

  • Yeah, I was thinking of AD's that have their programs in good shape recently, in multiple sports . I was thinking of Vanderbilt's, Wisconsin, Mich ST, Baylor, TCU, Arkansas, Stanford, Mizzou & Loiusville. Just some schools that have had several of their programs do well lately considering their histories & competitions. Idk much about the actual AD's themselves. Maybe you guys could enlighten. What other schools AD's come to mind?

I would also like to know who some are that elevated donations significantly from before they took over, as that's what I believe Hyman understood that our previous ones didn't. All schools in the conference are obviously getting the SEC shared revenue $ from TV contracts & Bowls, etc but what seperates the schools is who can generate donations from their own. JMHO

  • Thanks. He would be a great hire. I love Tanner and I love Holbrook. But I have no idea whether or not Tanner would be a good
AD or Holbrook would be a good Head Coach since neither have experience at either of those jobs. LSU went through this.

Morrison looks like a slam dunk if he is interested.

LSU went thru this and was successful on the AD front as Bertman did a very good job. Smoke laval, not so much as Bertram's succesor in the dugout. But as has been mentioned in other threads, imo Holbrook is no Smoke laval.

It is indeed a slam dunk imo. a slam dunk to hire Ray as AD. He has earned the shot.
