Who was the best player you ever played against?

I did not play football but I did run track. I graduated holding multiple school records including the 110 high hurdle record. I had the pleasure of running against Terrance Trammel as a senior. He beat me by just over a full second in that race. 1 second in the 110's is a lifetime.

    Great story. Thanks for sharing.

I played baseball against Corey Jenkins. He was pitching one time when we played then, and he beaned me. Thank good it was a curve ball.

Chris Corley did the same to me in baseball. Twice. That hurt for days!!

Just to name a few: Kentrell Jones, Marco Hutchinson, Derek Ross, Ben Watson, Dedric Wise, Ryan Sims and Chris Hope were okay too.

Kentrell Jones might be the best high school football player I ever saw, him and Stephen Davis.

When I was a junior at Irmo, we were undefeated in basketball, then Ray Allen and Hillcrest ( a 3A team ) came into our house and beat us. I never saw Garnett play, but I saw Jermaine O'Neal, and Ray Allen was by far the best high school basketball player I have ever seen. BJ was awesome, but not like that.

  • Never played organized football. A few years ago, though, I was playing on a flag football team. There was one guy who was killing us. Was way too fast for anyone to even attempt guarding. I didn't recognize him but was told later it was Toby Cates. Now maybe I was misinformed but from the way the guy played I would not be surprised at all. I covered him the first play of the game and knew immediately we were dealing with an athlete like none of us had ever messed with.

This Bundy kid from Polk County scored 4 touchdowns against us, including the game winner. I bet he went on to big things.

This wasn't an official game situation, but I got the chance while at Carolina to be a practice player for the women's basketball team and guarded Shannon Johnson. Well, maybe I should say that I tried to guard Shannon Johnson. She was the quickest player I ever played against, men included. And I have no shame in saying I got schooled by a girl.

Coach Walvius would let the girls play against guys all the time. Shaun Gortman was a beast too!

  • Had to play against Carlos Dunlap when I was a freshman and he was a senior. Our starting tackle was hurt and I was the backup. I still have nightmares.

I saw this thread over on the Georgia boards and thought I might get it going over here. For those of you who played in High School/College, who was the best player you ever played against?

For me, I've played against Carlos Dunlap, Robert Quinn, Andre Ellington, and Stephon Gilmore. But in all honesty, Byron Jerideau might be the best I ever had to face. I played OG in high school and when we played Colleton County one year, he was the sole focus of the gameplan that week. We won the game, but Byron absolutely dominated the double team we had on him the whole game. Once time he blind-sided me and completely knocked me on my side.

Chris Wasburn was big, mean and could flat out play but Jimmy Foster was flat out relentless even in practice with his teammates

I played 3B primarily. Earl gets up and I move back on the grass literally. He takes a low curve ball and one arms it and I didn't even bother turning around. That was at Lancaster. I want to say we won that game. The rematch at home I'm leading off one inning and they bring Earl in to pitch. He threw it in the mid 90's but had no clue where it was going. His warm up pitches were hitting the backstop. Coach just looks at me says "Don't dig in.". I step up and take 4 fastballs that I could hear but not see and gladly jogged to first.

My sophomore year, we were playing Lancaster at Lancaster. They had a lefty named Mielke that was just mowing our hitters down. They were killing us, so our coach decided to give some of us younger guys a chance. I'm leading off the inning and I notice that they've changed pitchers and bringing in this little guy. I'm thinking this is my chance to show the coach something...I stroll to the plate, full of confidence, and then this little guy blows a 90+mph past me before I could blink. I fouled the next one off...barely. He blew the third one by me and I went and took my seat on the bench. Turned out it was Casey Reed. The next year he struck me out with 3 wicked breaking balls. I never even got the bat on the ball.
