Who would you rather be our next head football coach?

  • Mangus or Elliott?

    I would prefer Elliott

    http://thenrpodcast.com/

    CockyEveryDay

  • Mangus

    Whit Suber

  • of those two options, Elliot

    Cocky87

  • Bob Barker.

The price would always be right too

You can't see! I can't see! All that matters is can the f*&%ing horse see! That's a raid!

  • Chris Petersen if I knew he would retain Elliot, Mangus and any other coaches that have built recruiting ties to high schools we do well in.

    VisorVillain

  • Neither. I prefer James Franklin. We will be coming off our most successful run in school history when Spurrier retires. That is no time for on the job training.

I don't get the infatuation with James Franklin. He took over a Vandy program that Bobby Johnson had already stabilized. The only thing he's done so far is recruit well. They finished 6-7 (2-6). He hasn't done anything yet.

  • Elliot.

James Franklin gives good "us against the world", and "nobody respects us" speeches, but guys who do that pop up every 4 yrs, and run out of speeches quickly.

Don't agree on Franklin but certainly agree with the second part of this statement. You do not build up a program to give a guy his first job. Love both Elliott and Mangus but not sure you replace a Spurrier with either.

  • Elliot is a rising star in the coaching profession. I could see him getting the job with Mangus as OC. If Elliot isn't our next HC I think he may end up back here as HC eventually.

I'm not as high on Franklin, but I agree with your point.

I really do not understand the aversion I've read here lately to having open searches where the school would interview all the best possible candidates interested in the job and make a decision accordingly.

Being good at one's job is a much better qualification than being familiar with the place where you would be doing it.

South Carolia is weird and the SEC difficult, but the idea that coaching football or running an athletic department well is unique to these parts is an odd one.

I see no reason at all why USC should not have open searches for its open positions. Should be quite a few people interested and the person doing the hiring can choose the best one.

Granted, the ultimate hire might not fit some agendas or end up being someone's friend, source, neighbor, acquaintance, confidant, protege or personal hero, but that isn't always a bad thing. And of course, you know the open search just might end up hiring that person so it might not be something to be all that afraid of.

  • I want someone who has some head coaching experience. We are too big time to gamble on an unproven coach. I love both Mangus and Elliot but just because they can recruit, love our school, and can coach their groups, does not mean they can lead a team in the toughest conference in the country. JMHO.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if SOS remarks to Saban made Saban just wanna say, "well Steve, since you said BAMA was so easy, I'm gonna come to USC and one-up everything you just did."

But.....given the two listed, ill take Mangus w/ Elliot in his current role, as well as playcalling w G.A.

  • Phillip Fulmer was an assistant coach at UT before he got the head job... Just saying

Mark Richt was also another one without head coaching experience.

Bottom line is I agree to have a open search but it doesn't have to be someone who has been a head coach before. Just have to hire the best person for the job

I agree, its not definite. Just a interesting question. One day Elliot is going to be a Hell of a Head Coach. We might not be his first job, but he will be a damn good one in the future.

  • .
.Are there any insurance salesmen out there that have worked as a receiver's coach or something?
    .
Oh wait... we play in a Big Boy football conference, that wouldn't work here.

    CockyMike1

  • Funny all of the Elliot fans are on here now talking about him being out next coach, before you people didn't want him here . All of you were saying when he was hired what is this. Please give me a break. The next hbc will be jr. It's the only reason we got the SOS in the first place. Jr. the next coach. Some of you are just wacked. Mangus can't get a raise how can he be the next hbc.
