Who would you rather be our next head football coach?

  • VBCock said...

He is one of the five best coaches in college football.

You'd honestly hire him to run your football program, after all that has happened in his career?

Yeah, great idea. We can save money by renting his office, and setting him up with a
pay phone at Hooters and a new Harley. Quality guy, that Petrino...

Or, maybe Sandusky will have been paroled by then; he'd be a good choice too...

Not that VBCock ever had any credibility, but he just lost whatever miniscule amount he may have had.

Someone will hire him and he will probably win a lot. I'm hoping it is not Tennessee or even Kentucky.

I never said that South Carolina would or should; he was one name on a list of about 20 current or former head coaches who might consider our job.

I understand you to be saying that you could not stomach his hiring morally. That's a valid concern. You seem pretty moral, so I can get that.

  • I just hope the BOT does not check the message boards before making a hire. Have a sophisticated, organized interview process with whoever the best candidates available are and then hire the best fit. Should be that way in all business/job openings.

    Alas...

That's quite a stretch putting Petrino in the same category as Sandusky.
CEO's, Governors, Presidents have managed to hold onto their jobs after getting caught with their pants down, yet I doubt Petrino is ever a head coach again. Don't know what that says, if anything.

    Alas...

That's about right. And, since Coach Spurrier's retirement is a good while away, the list of
candidates will be have changed ....Coach is tough !

And going back to character's role in the head coach, just look at what JopePa's tacit nod
to Sandusky's sick time there has done for PSU....

I'm uncertain about it, to be honest. He is a major question mark going into the season and we might have found someone more proven.

However, as I understand things spurrier did assess a number of candidates and made the choice he made.

The position having been filled, I hope for the best and support Ward whole heartedly.

It will be difficult for him replacing such a popular figure. Not a whole lot of breathing room for him.

I realize EJ was very popular, and I am one of his biggest fans.

My butthole puckered whenever we had to play a team that passed the ball a lot. For whatever reason, our pass defense was never stellar under EJ. We were fantastic statistically last year. A lot of that had to do with who we played, and he could also thank Brad Lawing for all of the sacks our DE's got.

I agree with you that our defense struggled at times with good passing teams. Of course, good passing teams are considered good passing teams because they are good at passing, so that has something to do with their success.

The other team has a say in the outcome of the game. That is not often something that post game analysis always considers. Not everything is within the team you pull for's control.

Do you know who was in charge of a lot of that?

Ellis Johnson was in charge of all of it. I know that.

If that's your answer why stop there. Go with Steve.

Well mainly because Spurrier famously does not involve himself with the defense and leaves it to his coordinator.

But if you would like to give all the credit for our quality defenses to Spurrier rather than Johnson, I'll let you do that. I think that would be fair.

EJs fault when they don't do well vs the pass but BL gets credit when they play great vs the pass?
