Why Frank Martin would leave KSU for USC

  • Per ESPN....

"According to a source with the direct knowledge of the situation, South Carolina is reviewing a potential $2.05 million deal to hire Martin. Martin's Kansas State contract paid him $1.45 million a year. The source said the South Carolina board is reviewing the proposal and if the framework of the deal is accepted then a formal offer will be made to Martin and he would accept. A press conference would be held later Tuesday if accepted.

The source said Martin was intrigued by joining an athletic department that has a national championship baseball team, Steve Spurrier coaching football and Dawn Staley as head coach of the women's team. Martin is also interested in possibly working for athletic director Eric Hyman and wants the challenge of getting the Gamecocks to the top of the SEC."

.... enough said. He wants to be a part of something big. A group of coaches that is taking our University to an elite level...Nationally...in all sports. I don't think I have ever been as proud to be a Gamecock as I am right now. People want to be here. We are not a step down from anywhere. We are are place where top coaches, top talent, top athletes are being drawn to because they know where the hell we are headed... THE TOP! Go Cocks!

  • We are shelling out some cash. It's closer to home. He doesn't hate our ad.

No offense to k-state, but I don't think it was their tradition or support that was bringing people from around the country to rural Kansas. I think he probably feels that winning and recruitingmtomcarolina won't be any more difficult. He may or may not be correct about that.

I tend to think he will be able to pull same kind of players. League isn't as difficult. Fewer bell cows.

  • Sorry but Carolina is a better job than K-State. Better talent base in the area, more money, better location, better everything except for tradition and they dont have great tradition either.

  • I have been to KSU. Makes Pickens and CU look like Hong Kong.

  • Imagine you're stuck in the middle of the Everglades. Now substitute wheat fields for sawgrass and take away a few alligators and you've got Manhattan, Kansas.

And at USC he won't be playing second fiddle to Clemson like he was to Kansas at K-State.

    Enough said.

  • I don't think we drove thorough any of Kansas last year on our drive out to Omaha but I drove I-70 accross the middle of Missouri and up into eastern Nebraska. On the interstate sometimes you could only see two sides of the interstate, 3 or 4 cars, and corn. Just millions and millions of corn stalks. You would pass an exit on the interstate and the sign would say "Next Gas14 miles" or something similar. It's not wheat but I know where you're coming from.

  • I think Kansas helped there situation a little. Both recruit nationally for players...but Kansas made basketball important in that state.
