Why do we have such difficulty

  • covering WRs? Seriously, why? I've said before I think it's a lack of talent, but if you disagree with that, then what is your reasoning? And try to back up your stance with evidence. Is it coaching? Scheme? Intelligence?

  • I've no idea, basically the same bunch as last year. So it's kinda hard to blame the entire db/lb corp.

  • For me I look no further than lack of depth on the outside and the lack of pure talent at the safety position. The CB's have no real depth and when one goes down it destroys continuity. We do not have a standout safety and that causes confidence issues. These issues combine to force trust issues. The CB's don't know if the guys behind them will be there to help and the guys at the back have a revolving door of guys in front of them. Because of all of this the coaches cannot call bump and run and press coverages forcing DB's 7-8 yards off the line. When this happens the DB's get sick of being beat short and try to "create" plays by jumping routes. This opens them up for busted plays and the safety cannot help out. Coaching and recruiting are key and it will take an offseason to fix both.

    Other problems include:

    - They will not wrap up
    - They may have had inflated opinions
    - Teams can't run so they test and test and test again
    - Injuries

There are many problems and they need to get fixed but I would hate to throw the baby out with the bath water in this case just because we had one bad year. We have been so good at DB for so long I refuse to think that this will not get corrected by next year.

Where do you see help coming from? Or, I guess I should say - who, do you see providing help next year? What safetys do you see that can fill the role of a standout player? Who do you see providing immediate depth at CB?

As for the CB's I think we reload well next year with Victor Hampton and Brison Williams. I think that Legree could improve a ton but I think I read somewhere that it simply has not clicked yet. As for the safety's... I'm REALLY hoping that Kadetrix Marcus comes in and is ready to go because I don't see a ton of options there unless we move some people.

As for guys still out there... we MUST get Sheldon Royster because he could step in right away and play safety I think.

Ok, so I gotta ask... we currently employ a scheme that a group with ample experience can't seem to grasp, even with it a simple as we can make it. Why do you think a group of newbies can come in and understand it well enough to improve the overall play? And, if we try to complicate the scheme, it'll make it even harder. Or, do you think we change schemes this off-season?

  • Our guys ALWAYS bite on the double move. ALWAYS. WR running wide open

  • I think the way the secondary performs is directly related to how disruptive the D line is. Our D-line got NO pressure tonight. We had some LBs time a few snaps well and slip by... but overall Newton had too much time.

I dont care if you the best cover corer on the planet... there is only so long you can cover a WR.

  • By the time spring practice rolls around, there will be a new secondary coach. Spurrier is no fool, he knows what he has to do.
