I think some (not all) alumni might feel a certain connection to the university that fans who didn't attend USC generally wouldn't have. But that doesn't make an alum a "better" fan. Alumni status has no correllation with how how rabidly one follows the various USC sports teams. Sounds like he is just showing his ignorance.

These threads typically take on a life of their own. You have included a fandom argument between alumni vs. non-alumni and sprinkled it with non-alum's extending a toast at the end of alma mater. Bravo. Should be an interesting read.

You are a fan. Don't worry about it. I am a Grad who lives and dies Carolina sports but i have several Buddies who aren't grads who put me to shame.
One is a Ga Tech alum. My Wife is a North Carolina grad who is a much better fan than me. Gotta educate them.

I, too, do not go to USC. HOPE scholarship is a beautiful thing.

That being said, I bet I know more about the school and athletics than 75% of the students at the school.

I don't participate in the tomahawk chop out of respect to any Native Americans that may be in attendance.

If you went to Miller-Motte you still can't be a fan of the Gamecocks. The president of that college recently started an online athletics department so you have to pull them in their fantasy league. I think they open up the season with The University of Phoenix.
