Will Mitch redshirt?

Heading into 2013, the quarterback position is one of strength for South Carolina, but does that mean commitment Connor Mitch (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) will redshirt?

  • I know SOS is extremely high on the kid. It's my understanding (and correct me if I'm wrong) that SOS told CM he would coach for at least 4 more years if he'd sign with us.

Mitch is the QB SOS has wanted since he's been here. A smart kid with a great arm who can sling it around the field. I'm excited to see what CM can do in a Spurrier offense. I guess there's a good chance he will redshirt, but honestly I wouldn't be that shocked if he didn't. But then again you have Nosovitch who, from what I understand, has been tearing it up in practice. All in all a great problem to have.

  • Silly statement. We know what we have with CS and DT, which is solid. Barring injury if Noso or Mitch play its cause they are better than solid and that's an upgrade.

Are you referring to my statement? Because I never said that CM will start next year....

  • Pretty sure he is referring to "we are in trouble if he doesn't".

  • I would say redshirt him. We have two very capable QBs right now. Best to let him mature a bit and learn the system, then unleash him.

    Tempest

  • I would be very, very surprised if he doesn't redshirt. Finally, for the first time in the Spurrier era, we have a stable of quality QBs. Teams can't win championships without good QB play.

  • I hope between Noso and Mitch, that one of them doesnt get frustrated and transfer out like McEvoy did........we need them both......

You are incorrect on that situation.

  • This is an impressive young man, and we are VERY happy to have him as a Gamecock. Reading this, I was thinking how excited I would have been at his age to have somebody like SOS come and visit me at my house, and eat with us. I would be fired up now if The HBC wanted to come over and hang, also.

If you watch Nosy's high school tape, he was very similar to Mitch as a passer. Of course, Nosy is very fast, also. Having those two here is pretty exciting. Both of them are good size, also.

I also am a believer in DT now. I think he will have the best season as a passer under Spurrier his senior year.

We have some QB's now, fellas! How exciting is that?

Sorry, but Duckhunter has posted about a 100 times that it wasn't a depth chart issue that lead to his transfer. Now if you don't believe Duck, then I guess you would disagree.

Both CS and DT are very solid and we will win a good number of games with them. That being said I hope Noso or Mitch win the starting job, because that means they are at a level above DT and CS, which means SOS finally has the elite passer we've been looking for. If they don't its still ok, as I'm happy with either CS or DT.

  • 2013 depth chart 1)CS, 2)Noso, 3)DT, 4)CM (headed for a red shirt)
We need to add that tall WR before CM starts a game. I watched several films on the young man and he does rely on that jump ball.

Afraid Brent might be like DD and just a practice guy, but I do expect Smith to show out and based on what we've seen from Shaq so far, I think Smith ends up the stud of that class.

  • I think it's fair to say
That down the road one day
    A stellar QB named Mitch
    Will make clempson his bitch.

  • I would think Mitch would be redshirted. Shaw and Thompson have proven their capability, and Nosovitch is behind them. Barring injury, Shaw or Thompson will probably start. Nosovitch will contest them for playing time. Saving Mitch and letting him learn the system seems to be the smartest thing to do unless both Shaw and Thompson are injured during the season. Both Nosovitch and Mitch will have their time - at least two years for Nosovitch and maybe more. Shaw will be a senior and Thompson a junior. Remember we had to go to third in the depth chart at least twice this season. Should be an interesting few years coming up.

    We're gonna beat Clemson regardless
No matter who runs the show
    So don't be a worryer
    We've got Steve Freakin' Spurrier
And well let's face it- Dabo is slow

Also, Shaq has an insane vertical leap, insane.

  • Vertical is only about 25% of it when all is said and done. You have to have range (height and wingspan) and girth (weight and strength)
    6'0 , 190 with the same vertical is A LOT different than 6'3, 210.

This is no knock on Shaq, I think he's going to be a good one. A really good one.

But if Mitch throws a lot of jump balls, (Like Garcia) we are going to need receivers that have the physical attributes to fight off defensive backs like Rice or like Alshon.

I guess short story long, we should accept Shaq for what he is and not expect something that he isn't.
