That is very disappointing. It opens up the outfield a little bit and definitely cleans up the DH spot. However, he would've been a major part of our lineup. I hope he's OK.

That's very difficult to understand - a proven, experienced player, that played well in some big games.

Regardless, Jake has cemented his place in Gamecock lore forever with that tremendous play against Florida. That moment is one for the ages and will always be remembered.

I understand the anxiety. we do have a certified counselor on the board, if anyone needs to talk, or take a relaxing boat ride.( Sorry, just had to) But i am confident that Tanner knows what he's doing.

No one suggested otherwise. Sorry, not interestedin arguing about it.
Just stating a fact- that he's a proven, experienced baseball player for South Carolina- in big games too- and it's very surprising.

Guys - I am being 100 percent honest when I say that I don't have a clue what kind of "personal issues" Williams has off the field. Everyone around the program is being very quiet about what has been going on and very few people actually know. At one point, only Ray Tanner and Jake Williams knew why he was missing practice - none of the players or assistant coaches knew what was going on. A lot of the team, I'm told, still doesn't know what has been going on behind the scenes.
The reason that Williams isn't on the team is not a performance issue. Whatever the problems he's had off the field have kept him off the roster. At this point, I don't know whether it is completely a personal decision or if USC has "helped" him make it. I was told he was not "cut" and that Ray Tanner will address it tomorrow.

What does this do to the outfield?

Not a lot. The starting outfield was (L-R) English, Marzilli, Matthews. What it does is impact the DH. In my Final Review: Outfielders piece, I wrote that Williams would start about three-fourths of the games either in the outfield or at DH. Those at-bats will now go to Kyle Martin, Sean Sullivan, Brison Celek, and Patrick Harrington, when healthy. Maybe even some TJ Costen.

As always you are on top of things. Thanks for the hard work Whittle. You guys are always the first to break any Gamecock news.

In addition to some World Series heroics, I'll also remember Williams for his pinch hit 3 run home run at Fluor Field to help the Cocks beat Clemson 5-4.

Well that sucks, I don't know or understand exactly whats going on here, but I'm sure Coach is making the right decision no matter how difficult it may be.
I hate it for Jake and wish him the best in his future career, but if you could only play two seasons of baseball for the Gamecocks, he picked the best two possible.

If not for Williams, I doubt we would have won the title last year...If Florida would have won the first game, it would have extremely difficult for us to beat them 2 straight..
Jake Williams has cemented himself forever as a primetime performer in my book.
