Yes, another Alshon thread... NFL comparison?

  • I believe Larry Fitzgerald is the best comparison. Both have elite ball skills, both 6'3" 217ish, neither known for straight-line speed, similar vertical, etc.

Neither is typically caught from behind even though their 40 times (or Alshon's theorized time) weren't elite. I believe he will have a very similar career... Scouts are not all retarded. He will go first round. Bank on it.

  • Fitz is one of the best route runners in the NFL and plays with extraordinary fundamentals. I don't think those are necessarily Alshon's strengths. Physicall you are prolly right on with your comparison.

  • I think boldin is better comparison

  • On the flipside, Mike Williams from Southern Cal would also be a good physical comparison and he didn't fare so well. I hope Alshon has a great career ahead of him but those who have questions about his ability to do that have good reasons for having those questions. Scouts who feel this way certainly aren't dumb, stupid, idiots or whatever else people want to say about them. The reality is scouts question his top end speed. He's going to get his chance to prove them wrong at pro day.

Will his lack of top end speed hurt him at the next level, if indeed it is an issue, yeah sure it will. It always helps to be able to blow by CBs. However, his athletic ability and superior hands will also give him a greeat chance to succeed. Only time will tell. Whether he goes in the first round or not will all come down to his pro day workout and that 40 time...Receivers that run 4.6 or worse will not go in the first round. Let's hope he comes in at 4.55 or better and makes himself a lot of guranteed money...

  • Fitzgerald and Boldin ran 4.66 and 4.73 respectively. He will go first round. regardless of 40 time. (which I believe will be 4.5's

  • Okay, Alshon is a beast in his own right, but comparing him to Larry Fitzgerald is a little ridiculous. Fitz dominated college football, was a runner up for the Heisman, and was hands down the number one receiver on the board in his draft class despite not having "elite" speed. They are both big, physical, and have great hands, but all homerism aside, Alshon just isn't as good all around as Fitzgerald.

  • Alshon is Randy Moss. I don't know why people havn't thought of that. Both are big and catch the ball in traffic extremely well.

The real USC is the one that didn't finish in the top 25. The real Carolina is Academic Fraud U. South Carolina back to back Top 10. Got it.

that's probably the most accurate comparison I've heard.

it't not all about top end (straight away) speed. quickness may be more important; getting off the line, getting in and out of breaks, making adjustments, etc. in addition to his hands (which I think Alshon's are comparable), that is where Larry Fitz excels.

He's similar in size and speed, but he has Mike WIlliams beat by a mile in ball skills and aggression.

Other than similar size, I don't think so. Burress's ball skills are average, whereas Alshon has elite ball skillls. Burress is (or was) also a bit faster.

Burris only had like 600 yards recieving last year, but had 8 TD's. He attacks the ball high in the air and has great hands. Thats what I see. I do agree that Plax was a bit faster due to having a leaner frame.

once again, Andre Johnson has great speed and separation ability, Alshon lacks that

IMO, i think Alshon's pro career will be like Muhsin Muhammed. He can be a #1 for a few years in the right system or on a team without an elite WR, but he will most likley be a #2 possession guy for most of his career who will average around 50 catches and 6-7 TD's a year. still not bad at all if he can play 10+ seasons
