  • Honestly though, I'd like to just sit at 14. If we wanted to get NC State, Duke, VT, or whomever later on its not like they wouldn't be willing to leave a watered down ACC or the Big 12.

  • Thought UNC and uva had offers years ago but weren't interested??? Now this disbandment might change things, but I'm sure I've heard this before.

I agree and I'll believe it when I see it.
My bet is that Swofford & the Turdholes will use the b10 offer for political gain and turn it down.
They don't want to be in a tougher conference anymore than Dildo's tigglets.
But I would still love it!

  • Reasons it wont be Duke:

    1. BOG in NC wont allow UNC to bolt for B1G unless NCS has an SEC offer.
    2. Football is the cash cow and bringing in Duke means 8-9 games per season without any draw.
    3. Duke is a small school with a spread out alumni base. Its questionable that they have enough fans in NC to force cable and satellite companies to carry the SEC Network at the prices we want to charge.

Lastly, I don't understand why so many of you seem scared of adding NCS to our schedule.

You raise good points. But it would seem odd to me having a conference member (NCST) which was controlled by a member of another conference (UNC). I admit it would probably make no difference. NCST makes 100x more sense to me than Duke.

Turns out Duke's athletic dept. is basically equal to UNC and blows away NC State (and Clemson) by more than $10 million.

The decisions by these 2 will determine the fate of the ACC. If an offer has been made then Both are well aware of
    Their intentions

Agree 100%. And I don't think the offer would be leaked out without knowing if they would accept or not. This could get interesting.

  • As an earlier poster or two said, "if" this comes to fruition it would open up the move for NC St and Va Tech to join us.

Money is driving this and adding the Raleigh/Durham and DC markets would be huge in the decision-makers eyes.

16 is inevitable and hope it happens.

Make note that Duke's profit is nonexistent. They are a private school and only have to report limited information as a result. For instance, they don't report student fees or university subsidation. Most SEC schools are >$4,000,000 in student fees and around $0 in university subsidation. NCS is on par with that. Other schools include $15,000,000 in student fees and/or $15,000,000 in university subsidation in the revenue column. The fact that Duke only managed to turn $300,000 in profit off of $78,000,000 in revenue is a red flag that they're subsidizing their programs in some way. The school keeps em out of the negative. The article points out the difficulty in comparing those numbers in paragraph 2.

I think there are some other red flags with Duke's numbers in the linked article. How on earth does Duke have virtually the same football revenue as UNC and NCS? Duke charging $200 for a ticket and $20 for a coke? Also, how exactly did Duke basketball out generate UNC basketball. Its all in the accounting.

  • According to this site UNC has an invite:

I still think FSU makes the next move after Maryland lawyers down the exit fee.

I agree on Duke...do SEC teams really want another tough game on the schedule?

Nothing matters except the TV contract $$$$, all else, geography, old rivalries, etc. mean nothing.

If this happens then I think even the SEC would start to worry a little, the Big10 is creating a massive TV market and they already have the richest TV deal thanks to the Big10 Network. If their schools are pocketing $20 or 30 million more per year down the road thanks to the Big10 network and the power of cable and satellite TV contracts then they could even peel away some of the premium SEC teams. Money talks bigger than ever in today's sports.

  • Not saying this won't happen, but can someone give me a link there has some substance ? All I've seen so far is a tweet buried in an article that is nothing more than suggestive. That tweet came from a guy who was the Md 247 writer that broke the news of Md going to the B1G, but nowhere else can I find anything that supports this.
