Not if you "go to usc aiken." That actually makes you only an alum of wherever you graduated high school. Now, once you get a degree from there, it makes you an alum in my book. I graduated from Winthrop and have graduate work through Converse and other places, I hope that makes my money I've paid for Gamecock Club dues, season tix, etc. good and useful to USC. If not, I apologize to any offended USC alums, and I've had and plan to continue to have one helluva good time supporting my Gamecocks!! game-cocks thumbsup

I'm just gonna go ahead and throw this out there, because I know I'm not the only one thinking this, but no. You're not what I would consider an alumni of USC. Youre degree does not say USC. It says USC-______. Sorry to bust your bubble.

This is why I hate the new USC commercials. And as I said before, I know I'm not alone because I have talked to lots of other alumni and friends about this topic. (Or maybe were are just jerks?) The new commercials spout out on about all our satellite campuses. Who cares? I went to USC Columbia. Thats where our athletes go. Thats the campus that makes the moolah. Last time I checked, Williams Brice wasnt in Beaufort and Darla Moore wasn't giving money to USC Mauldin or USC Simpsonville or something. I'm a Gamecock. Not a USC Upstate Spartan or whatever all their other mascots are. If you can't get into USC, which is NOT that hard a school to get into if you're a B level high school student, then you shouldn't be able to consider yourself an alumni of USC Columbia.

Do alumni of UNC Charlotte and UNC Greensboro consider themselves alumni of THE UNC (Chapel Hill)? I would hope not. Do alumni of U Cal San Bernandino consider themselves alumni of THE Univ of Cal (Berkley)? Once again, I hope not.

Not saying they can't be fans. Sure, go for it. The more the merrier. But don't wear your ring around like you graduated from USC Columbia, much less experienced it in all it's glory. If someone told me in conversation they were an alumni of USC and then come to find out they went to USC Aiken, I'd consider them a wanna-be. That's always an interesting situation..."Oh you went to USC? What year?"..."19_ _."..."Oh nice. I'm class of 19_ _. Good times, huh?"..."Yeah totally."..."Oh yeah. *Talk football and other odds and ends until you realize he knows nothing* You ever go out to 5 Points? What a place. Lots of memories."..."Nah, never really got to go. I actually went to USC XYZ."...and then you give a resounding "Oooohhhhh ok" and walk away. And yes that HAS happened to me on more than one occasion. People DO lie (gasp!) about their education. My uncle claims he went to the same school as my mom and it drives her nuts. Hell, look at the recent hoopla at Yahoo over Scott Thompson. Anyways, rant over. Flamers flame away, haters gonna hate.

The piece of paper says it all. It's like the title to your car. Don't tell people you drive a 2010 model if you drive an 08 and the body styles are similar.

I went to USC Columbia.. I consider him an alum.. get over yourself... I had a dream in 5pts. but im sure he got his fair share of tail in Aiken... Probably more than you

Well, he did ask if he and his friends were jerks for sharing the high opinion. I fully admit I'm not an alum, and if someone wants to claim being a USC-Columbia alum makes them a bigger Gamecock than me, that's their right, but I won't agree with it. Maybe that makes me a jerk to some, but I'd like to think it makes me one to a lot less folks than the majority.

As I've said in discussion threads about who can and can't "give a health" during the alma mater, everyone has reasons for going to college (or even not going to college at all) where they did, based on many, many varying and valid reasons. All I know is, not one cent has gone to where I did graduate from since I got my diploma, and thousands upon thousands have gone to USC to spend as they see fit. Different strokes for different folks, and yes, I have 5-Points stories myself.

No. If you graduated from there, it would make you "a Pacer's alum." It would still make one a USC alum and has nothing to do with the quality of one's fan support, but along time ago USC Aiken decided to be the Pacers, not the Gamecocks, and the answer to your question was set in stone.

Conversely, if you graduated from Jacksonville State, you are "a Gamecocks alum," but you are not a USC alum.

In other breaking news, the sun came up this morning.

You need to have more pride. Saying you went to USC when you went to a satellite campus on a professional resume is bullshit and a flat out lie. There's a difference. It's leading the employer to believe something that's not true. Do you honestly put your education on the same level as someone who went to one the 6744 satellites? How many awards has USC Irmo won? Where is USC West Ashley ranked in IB programs nationally? Like I said, have some pride.

No, it doesn't make you a jerk. That's my point!!!! My very basic but somewhat long winded point was that those whos degree says USC ______ should not consider themselves alumni of the very USC campus that this entire site is based on. It's a fact.

Fine. Whatever. Congrats pal. Heres a cookie. But don't consider yourself an alumni if we ever run into each other. Bottom line. Your business degree didnt come from DMSB.
