  • I think it was more the fat pitch right in their batter's zone than anything Andy said...

    SlimCutta

  • that pitch was VERY hittable...obviously!

Anyone that ever played baseball, knows you don't mention it. Baseball players, and I'm an old one, are very superstitious. As a pitcher ... I'm telling you it's the curse. Andy even said ... “and I don't want to mention the other thing“ in the 8th inning. It's a no no. This is why John didn’t mention it in his thread. I threw a couple in my life, and there’s nothing like that feeling! What a shame to miss it on the last out of the game.

The important thing is folks; we have a hell-of-a ball club this year. It could be a three peat.

Just one old ball player's opinion.

um yes u don't mention it in the dugout...this is the radio announcer we are talking about.

it wouldn't have mattered if he said anything or not, it would have been the same outcome regardless.

You guys are clueless. Like Davy said, if you're a gamecock fan, player, trainer, or ticket taker, you don't mention it. Obviously these guys are in the radio booth, but they're still gamecock guys. It's bad luck. It's a jinx. It's one of those things that is known by anyone whos ever spent any time around the game.

It's exactly like the commentator who says that a guy never misses free throws or hasn't missed a FG all year. Guaranteed he misses the next one. Always happens. In this case, these guys are "our" commentators. They should know better.

  • Andy doesn't know better. Really miss Mike Morgan....

It applies to the players playing and in the dugout, not announcers. Avoiding the pitcher. The pitcher has no idea what the announcer is saying.

It's an unwritten rule so I don't think there is a right and wrong answer

  • A good funny thread appears to have turned into idiots actually believing that Andy shouldn't mention this "insignificant" detail on the broadcast. On every televised baseball game in which a no hitter becomes a possibility, you will hear the announcers say "we'll be back to see if so and so can make history" or "after 8, he still has the no hitter going".

We all know you don't mention it to the pitcher while it's going on other than to say "keep it up" or "keep mowing them down" but other guys on the bench often talk about it and nobody blames them.

By the way, I know a lot of folks don't love Andy's voice, but he does a much better job describing the details than Morgan ever did. I think both do a great job with exciting stuff like walk-off hits or final outs, but Morgan was terrible about reminding the listeners or the score, the baserunners, etc. and you would often hear the clink of a ball being hit seconds before he would tell you what happened - for instance on a foul ball, you'd hear it then sit wondering what the heck happened and then he'd nonchalantly mention the count again as if you were watching on TV and could see the foul ball being hit. I'll keep Andy if it's ok with you guys.

I know for a fact it happens when you listen to a professional radio broadcast. John Sterling did it last season when Burnett had one going into the 4th or 5th.

  • So honestly, do you think since he "mentioned" it, that was the reason it didn't happen. Lord a mercy. I guess those who believe that are the same ones that still believe in the tooth fairy.

  • It only applies for players and people in the dugout. I think it is good to mention for those listening through the airways. Andy is 2-0 In Omaha. What was Mike Morgan?

  • I have to tell you, I've never heard that rule applied when it comes to the announcing team. If I turned on the game in the 7th inning and wasn't told there was a potential no-hitter, I would have found that bizarre.
Nonetheless, it was a great effort by out pitching staff and we will see many more similar great efforts as the year goes along.
