Answer me this....

  • We've seen collisions at home, why not slide into second trying to create a little contact and maybe a bobbled catch?

  • Even though it's officially Jadeveon Clowney season, I'm still curious.

Whittle? I'm not talking tackling the guy or getting out of the base path, but if he's on or next to the bag, just getting a little contact in there.

    Bump.

  • You're automatically out and ejected Fromm the game if you initiate contact with a defender if the umpire feels you could've avoided. It's pretty simple. I was surprised earlier this season when one of our guys hit a catcher pretty hard and wasn't ejected but I think it's because the catcher set up in th a baseline without the ball to try to take away the plate. The runner does have the right to get there.

You can't take out players in college baseball with the only exception being if they're blocking the base and don't have the ball. Even then, you're not really allowed to just barrel them over. I don't have the exact interpretation of the rule in front of me but that's not the college game. At second base, you have to slide directly into the bag no matter what. No vicinity rule like in the pros.

I've seen guys, like Greiner last night, slide to a side of the bag to attempt to avoid a tag. Guys slide by home and touch it with their hand, etc. Seen guys run over catchers. I've also seen guys at second and third put their foot in front of the bag. All I'm saying is that when they do that, slide into them, or don't slide and run through them to the bag.

Last night, Walker was standing on the chalk from home to first for a pop up, that's in the way of the runner, I'd have run over him. Why would that be illegal? If he doesn't have the ball and is in the way of the runner.

Havent you seen guys put their foot in front of the bag at second or third? Isn't that blocking the bag? That's all I'm saying, don't slide to an outer half of the bag, slide right into it and create some contact

You just can't. Take it up with the NCAA. The rules are strict, because the do not want to give players any room, rules wise, to start spiking guys. You just can't do that, you shouldn't do that, and nobody wants to see that in the college game, except WWE fans, I guess.

Dude has to avoid Walker if he is legitimately trying to catch the ball. Its just the rules. Its not something that should be a part of the college game.

As for not sliding into second, and running through the second baseman, thats just silly. You would end up running past the bag, and be tagged out, that's not counting the fact that you would be out anyways for trying to take him out.

It's not hockey, and it's not football. It's amateur baseball, and there is no need to giving players reasons to injure one another. That stuff would cause fights, injuries, and dirty plays. It's silly to even consider this. It's not baseball.
