  • They have certainly had a cinderella season.

Do you think they are not good enough or that they will eventually slump at the wrong time?

Odds are against them...hard to go wire to wire without a slump!

Usually you have to take your lumps trying to get to Omaha before you make it. Remember we lost in back to back supers before making it the first time under Tanner. They are good enough to make it, but I have a feeling they'll end up like Vandy a few years back with David Price. They lost in their own regional.

  • They want get out of the regionals. When they won the SEC about 5 years ago they got ousted by someone like Notre Dame.

  • I said right after the USC vs. UK series that I'm not saying they'll win the CWS or even go but there are a remarkable amount of similarities in Kentucky's team this year and South Carolina's the last two years. It wouldn't surprise me if they made it that far. They lack a lot of postseason experience so it wouldn't surprise me if they fall earlier, but I like the makeup of their team.

I think they are good enough. Most teams do have a slump and they have yet to have theirs.

I just believe it is hard to get to Omaha. Especially if you have not been in a while. Look how long it took Vandy. Look how long it took Ray to get us there. He had some great teams in 2000 and 2001 but we just could not get over the hump.

Kentucky has some talent. And I think they could get there. I would expect them to be a seed so that is an advantage. Just my gut tells me they will find the pressure a little too much this year.

I have nothing against Kentucky baseball. I hope they make it. Unless they are paired up with us of course.

  • The problem they are going to have is they will most likely face the Defending National Champs along the way, and even though the champs had to reload, the rookies will be seasoned by then, and the veteran leadership on the team will propel the Champs to victory, leaving Ky with a bad taste in their mouth...as they watch the Defending Champs march their way to a third consecutive title!

  • Experience is the problem. If I'm betting, my money is on them cracking in a Super or in Omaha if they get there.

I think you hit the nail on the head again John. Great team, but a team that doesn't have players used to getting to the CWS. They might make it there, they are the real deal, but lack of experience on the big stage creates stage fright, and you seldom see a team win it all without that experience factor.

Florida scares me more. And it's often the solid team that wins one and loses the SEC tournament that wins the big one. Lot's of rest on pitchers arms.

That's why I still believe USC could three peat. Been there, done that ... understand the environment.

The way they bounced back today is impressive. They have done that all year long.

Maybe I am wrong and they will have what it takes to get there.

    We shall see.

The difference with Kentucky is they do not have any big stars on this team. Vandy had Price and that second baseman whose name I can't recall.

  • I think many of you are counting them out for the same reason people always counted us out. Don't dismiss this Kentucky team. They are good. They have a lot of experience and on top of that, they have a couple of outstanding freshmen. Their CF is on the top 5 or 6 in batting average and Reed is in the top 5 or 6 in batting average in SEC games.

I still think lack of experience in big games is what normally gets teams who make a fast rise to the top. It happened to us, it happened to Vandy, and I expect it to happen to Kentucky. However, that doesn't change the fact that they are as good as anybody and can't be overlooked in the national picture. I'd like another shot at them in Hoover so we can get the goose egg off the board.

That is how I feel. I think they have the talent and the team to make a run. If they just don't let the pressure get to them. It can get you sometimes. All you have to do is look at our 2000 team. We were maybe the best team in the country that year. It is tough when you are supposed to win.

  • The difference between our teams who won and theirs this year is that they lack a lot of experience, especially when it comes to the post season.

  • Having never been to Omaha, winning the championship would be a major reach I think. The value of post season experience, for players and coaches, cannot be overstated.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't get out of their regional. I don't think they get to Omaha. It's a different game in the post season.

This is what I'm thinking. They remind me of VU when Price was a JR and they lost to Meechigan on a walk off in extras with Price in 130-40 pitch range I believe. You have to learn how to be successfull in the post season too. Look how long it took USC. Look how long it took VU to get to Omaha. Better yet luck and laugh at the FSU futility. ScuM is right there in terms of futility too haha.

  • The only two certainties in college baseball are FSU will at some point fold like a cheap oxygen tent and no way in hell an ACC team captures the CWS title. Kentucky, on the other hand, may surprise. But I doubt it.

    3rdBaseHeckler

  • I would put a lot greater chance on Florida winning it than Kentucky. I just don't see KY holding up under the pressure in the post season.

You forgot Ga. Tech folding except this year they managed it in the regular season after another high ranking.
