Colby Holmes

  • I was just looking through the past 2 yrs stats, and one thing jumped out at me. Colby Holmes has given up 20 HR over the past two seasons. I am not bashing the guy in any way, this just stood out. This is more than 2x as many as any of the other regular starters: Roth, Koumas, Price. Holmes's ERA is not skewed in the same ratio as this. It is kind of strange.

Do ya'll think this has to do with the tendency for him to miss belt-high? I would say that is probably it. Roth, in a lot more innings, only gave up 7, I think. Of course, Roth has good misses, and that is what makes him so good.

Anyways, I guess keeping the ball down is something he is going to have to work on. Is it something mechanically he does wrong when he's missing? I think it's harder for someone of his height to get that good, downward plane.

It was just something I noticed when going through the stats. That, and the fact that Walker's power numbers did not go down with the bat change, which was weird.

  • He leaves that slider sitting in the middle of the plate alot..I like Colby though..We can have an advantage pitching him on Sundays or huge advantage in midweeks if we can upgrade there..

A good changeup is a beautiful thing to watch..and I am not sure that pitch is a part of Colby's effective arsenal. You can miss belt high and still grin when the batter screws himself into the box.Big difference between 90-92 and 77-78mph and keeps them honest.Just my opinion
