I was just looking through the past 2 yrs stats, and one thing jumped out at me. Colby Holmes has given up 20 HR over the past two seasons. I am not bashing the guy in any way, this just stood out. This is more than 2x as many as any of the other regular starters: Roth, Koumas, Price. Holmes's ERA is not skewed in the same ratio as this. It is kind of strange.
Do ya'll think this has to do with the tendency for him to miss belt-high? I would say that is probably it. Roth, in a lot more innings, only gave up 7, I think. Of course, Roth has good misses, and that is what makes him so good.
Anyways, I guess keeping the ball down is something he is going to have to work on. Is it something mechanically he does wrong when he's missing? I think it's harder for someone of his height to get that good, downward plane.
It was just something I noticed when going through the stats. That, and the fact that Walker's power numbers did not go down with the bat change, which was weird.
