Since there's nothing good to say about the Gamecocks this weekend, I'm gonna brag on my Braves. They just swept the team that the media already crowned as the 2013 NL champion, and they did it in D.C. Paul Maholm is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Mike Minor is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA. That's not even mentioning Hudson, Medlen, etc. Kimbrel has 6 saves and still hasn't given up a run. Justin Upton has 7 HR and 11 RBI. Chris Johnson is hitting .405 now, and Evan Gattis is hitting .324 with 4 HR and 10 RBI, including that 2 run blast on a 95 MPH fastball at chin level from Strasburg.
I thought the Braves would be a great hitting team this year with the Uptons, Mccan, Heyward, etc.. I never thought that they would get the pitching they are getting with Maholm and Minor.
What is amazing is that Uggla, Heyward, and B Upton are hitting terrible right now and the braves are 11-1. That is amazing. Kimbrel is awesome as he has been. I just hope they dont wear down at the end of the year.
Those 3 are hitting .146 and the offense is still scoring runs. It's been fun to watch.
par for the course for Uggla and Heyward and Mccan though which is why they were mediocre teams in the past.
let's don't forget a guy like Gattis. That's the kind of thing that puts teams in contention for a special season.
I still think the Braves are going to need a power arm starter come post season though. That just seems to be what championship teams have that separates them at the end. Just my opinion
I'm not sure that Teheran can't become that kind of pitcher. He's not there yet though.
Probably has that potential but even if he does do well not sure he would have that type of experience to carry that weight come late Oct and Nov. But that is a long long ways away
It just seems in post season you face good hitting teams and they ratched it up a notch and don't chase things which off speed guys want you to do. They also tend to swing to contact more when things are on the line like that. It's not about how many HR's a guy can hit anymore for a big contract.

Most of the guys with the kind of experience and gas you speak of are very expensive. I'd love for Atlanta to pick up a late season rental but I fear the cost. Guys like King Felix and Samardzija, David Price, Ubaldo Jiminez, Luke Hochevar, Josh Johnson, and Matt Moore bring serious heat but I don't know if they'd be available or affordable. Some of them might not even help.
Gattis is a very cool story. What a journey he went on.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
You are absolutely right! But there is a reason they are expensive huh? Every championship team has them though. Braves starters are very very good but are they any of those guys you just named? I guess Medlin is closest? can the Braves afford it? Well come July it could be the difference in sealing the deal or closest thing to it? will the pass it up? I guess it depends on the asking price as much as the salary to me. if they are in that position salary cant be an excuse at that point.
You're right, but when I speak of the cost, I'm more concerned about the personnel it would cost them in a deal than I am the money for their salary. I wonder who they would have to give up. There are some good prospects like Gilmartin, Bethancourt, Terdoslavich, Graham, Alex Wood etc. I really liked Alex Wood at Georgia. I would love to see them hang onto him.
This piece was from last year if anybody hasn't read about him.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – It’s a rite of spring training: pitchers dominate hitters in early “live” batting practice, because pitchers have been throwing
True on Wood but he is a little like Minor and Maholm for whatever that is worth come trade time?
He's a lot more like Minor than Maholm. His average fastball is low 90s.
Bottom of the 8th today was unreal. Heyward, Justin, and Uggla all mashed long home runs off of a guy that throws 99 and had the longest homerless streak in baseball. Braves won 6-3.
But Luis Avilan went down with a bad looking hamstring injury. They said it was just strained and cramping. However, they're doing an MRI and the results could show worse.
That was a great inning. Not quite as dramatic as the Upton brothers home runs to tie and win one last week but definitely awesome.
I see we are hitting a little "cold" patch. PUN Intended! playing a doubleheader today but i hear the high in Denver today is like 28!
