Hey everyone - I just wanted to thank each of you - paying or free member - for taking the time to follow our baseball coverage here at TheBigSpur.com. We have had a blast this year covering the team from Game 1 through Game 69 - from first pitch of a 2-1 win against VMI to the toss of the gloves and dog pile by Arizona in a 4-1 national championship series loss. I said back in the fall that this was going to be a long, wild, and exciting season. There were a lot of new players and there were going to be ups and downs but the team was going to get better along the way. To me and most, it was going to be exciting. For others, it was going to be frustrating.
I thank all of you for being here and weighing in on topics and engaging in discussion in what was typically a very civil manner. We banned two paying members of this website for breaking board rules (repeatedly) but, in large part, it was a great season of dialogue.
I want to publicly thank - and I would encourage each of you to do the same via post on the message board, PM, or email - JC Shurburtt for allowing Juan and I to cover baseball like we do. This site set the standard years ago in baseball coverage and others have followed suit and I believe that's a good thing for both South Carolina and college baseball as a whole. For baseball fans, there is no other school that comes close to the baseball coverage that South Carolina has each and every game. I'd be willing to bet that South Carolina encompassed at least 40 percent, maybe half of the CWS media in terms of folks who follow one specific team. That being said, we strive to be the best in the market that already has the best coverage of any team. I hope that we have accomplished that. The only reason we're able to do what we do is because JC provides us the platform and means to do so. Please, please thank him.
Over the course of the next week or so, we'll have coverage wrapping up the 2012 season and we'll also look ahead to the 2013 season. There's a lot to reflect on as we say goodbye to some of the best to ever put on a South Carolina uniform. There's also a lot to look forward to as the 2012 class, which recruiting coordinator Chad Holbrook thinks is the best he's signed here, begins to enroll.
Along the same lines, I'll hit the summer circuit hard again this year to evaluate the 2013 class and while South Carolina gets the ball rolling putting together the 2014 class. I know there are some of you who don't like baseball recruiting because the professional draft impacts who enrolls heavily but we're able to paint a pretty clear picture of who to expect and who to not get too attached to. We'll also have coverage of current players in the summer leagues and I promise to start putting together the list of Gamecocks in the pros.
If there's anything you'd like to see going forward, please let me know. We cover baseball in the same manner we cover football and basketball - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We keep our finger on the pulse year around, which is what makes the interaction on The Sarge so awesome.
Again - Thank you all for participating on this site. Thanks for being a part of another long, memorable run. I appreciate each of you being a member. If you're not a member, I hope that you'll consider joining. Right now, we're honoring memberships from Gamecock Central, Gamecock Anthem and Go Gamecocks. There's no better time to give us a shot than now. Cash in on this great offer here!

Thank you and Juan for all your efforts. And to JC and Tony, thank you all.
JC, to make the investment for JW, Juan, and us the site members is really rewarding and what makes The Big Spur the very best. The investment by you and the quality of work by all The Big Spur staff assures loyalty from us the members...
Thanks to all....
As always thanks for providing great cover. You and the rest of the TBS team do an outstanding job and the baseball coverage is second to none.
Whittle........as always, you continue to set the standard for coverage of College Baseball and the Gamecocks. You and the job you do are a large reason why I made the switch many months ago to TBS. I appreciate all of your efforts. Like you, I am excited for the future. Making it this far after a complete overhaul from last years squad is simply amazing. It shows we have arrived as a program. As a great group of guys leave for bigger and better things in life, I look forward to the newcomers and the personality this team will take on next season.
Thanks John...you are the best!
Whittle ---------- we really appreciate your coverage, analysis and participation in the forums. Like someone said above, we realize that football will always be king but it is nice to see that someone is also there to provide the coverage that the two time national champions deserve. We look forward to all of your offseason coverage as well.
JC ------------- Thanks for allowing Whittle and Juan to provide the coverage that this program deserves.
"We are South Carolina. We respect everyone but fear no one" - Ray Tanner
Great job Whit. Best coverage bar none.
Nobody has better coverage for their baseball team than you give us for ours. Thanks for all you do. I never joined a pay site until I joined this one. I joined this one for your baseball insider notes.
Thanks, John, for your fantastic coverage of the Gamecock baseball program. It is much looked forward to and much appreciated.
Great work Whittle. I mean this when I say that there is one reason that I pay money for this board and that is the baseball coverage. Not trying to slight the other stuff TBS does but the quality of the baseball coverage is what separates this site from all others. I'll PM JC to tell him,the same. Keep up the good work.
This is the way I feel as well!
John Whittle, your coverage of Gamecock baseball is unbelievably good. If your coverage was only 25% as good as it actually is, I would still very much value the information. However, keep it coming !!
JC, thanks very much for providing the platform for the best college baseball coverage in the country.
Whittle...You. Are. The. Man.
Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm a schizophrenic and so am I.
appreciate all the coverage!
Thanks John...great to see everything evolve over the last few years. Watching Gamecock baseball is a treat, so covering it must be a dream! I'm thinking maybe we have a media day with the Dugout Club next year so ya'll can share some of your experiences. Rest up and reload!! SH
GO Cocks!! Baseball Rules......Email me about info for the Gamecock Dugout Club.
I thank you for the great reporting that you've done since I came on board 3 years ago.
College baseball far exceeds what we see on the MLB. The talent gets better each year.
The loss last night was tough, but most honorable by a fantastic group of guys!!
They'll go down in history, I'm sure ??
For Michael, Christian and Evan [ I'm biased ], making the all tourney team is awsum !!
May their futures be successful !!!!
And you should know that SC baseball has a hugh following up here in " New England ".
Thanks again, " Go Cocks "
A" Yankee Observer "
Thanks Whittle you are the best at what you do! ! Countless times i 've had to follow the game threads because of work and you are always spot on . Thanks again
Whittle your team's coverage of our beloved baseball program is the only reason I subscribe. That coverage is what separates this site for all the rest. Thank you for all you do and I can't wait to see what you have to share with us wrapping up this season and looking ahead to the next.
JC - Thanks for enabling Whittle and the team to bring us this great product that makes this site #1. Also .... JC......Whittle deserves a raise. Just my opinion.
My absolute biggest fear in the almost 1 year since I joined TBS, is that someone will come along and steal you away John. JC....please don't let that happen...we know what we have and he is a paragon of excellence. I have paid, visited, and scoured over damn near every relevant college baseball site in the country for years and there is none better than JW in accuracy, depth, and entertainment. His coverage sets the bar for all others in my opinion.Thank you JC for providing this platform for one of the best...to be the best!
appreciate it Whittle and Juan....
