Curious about Holmes...

  • I'm not very concerned about the runs he allowed if he feels OK tomorrow. On the TV broadcast, I thought I heard Andy say something about a strained rotator cuff. Is that the kind of thing he has been dealing with or was it more like the freak injury we've been hearing about the last few weeks?

    I know the coaches and players would've liked getting the game in and getting back on the winning track heading into the LSU series, but since I always look for the silver lining, it can't be all bad that we have every pitcher ready to go for the weekend.

    That was the same injury from a few weeks back. That ended up being the diagnosis I believe. They looked for a tear and didn't find anything significant to warrant surgery from what I heard.

    I didn't look at the gun on every pitch but I think his velocity was fine. He just left some pitches up and over the plate and Upstate was very agressive.

    He was hit pretty hard. Even the outs were hit hard. It could have just been the fact that he has not pitched much lately and his control was off.

  • It looked to me to be lack of command. He threw a bunch of fastballs above the belt. Upstate swung early in the count when they knew they'd get fastballs. They were impressive.

  • If you know you are getting a fastball, and it ends up being belt high, unless its Strasburg throwing it, you are going to hit it hard. That goes for any hitter that plays college ball.

    First pitch of the game was 89 according to the radio broadcast so I think his velo is okay.
