  • No offense, but everytime I hear we've gotten a big recruit...the draft potential scares me of a guy never coming on campus....gotta hold our breath for a little bit

I do not care for this way of thinking! This staff is excellent at recruiting and knows the odds on each player. As a class gets closer to enrolling the staff always has a plan A, B,C and so on. Just be happy that we keep getting high level recruits and trust the staff to make it all work out. They have a rather good track record.

  • I think the point he was trying to get across was, if we sign the "Clowney" of baseball, great, but more than likely he will never see the field. Where as, with football, the only big leagues you have to worry about are other schools recruiting your commits. All sports have non-qualifiers.

  • 5'11" 165 does not guarantee we get him, but might help our chances some.

  • The kid was just a sophomore in high school this year. Could still grow. He plays for a school that was my rival in high school. It has taken a huge commitment to play for the Canes for a person from Maryland. A lot of plane rides to tournaments.

In Baseball, we are basically like Bama in football. No other schools are going to take our commits, unless he is a walk-on. So, it is basically the same thing.

With guys like Clowney, we worry to death about Bama or jawja taking them, with baseball, they may get drafted in the first couple of rounds. Works out the same.

Also, for whatever reason, Baseball has far, far less people not qualify academically. It seems like that anyways. We rarely ever hear about a recruit even being borderline.

  • What's your gut feeling on him actually suiting up for the yard cocks?

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.

He hasn't started the 11th grade...how would anyone know at this point? It is almost 2 years until the draft!

Exactly what I said minus the team names. Regardless, glad to have top tier guys, and hopefully we can keep a handful from going pro.

  • I read somewhere else that Harding is projected to be a closer at the next level. Do you think that increases the odds he comes to college?

You are correct in that the size helps but the 94 mph hurts. He will definitly get drafted the question is how high. The best we can do is recruit the very best and hope some stick. Good pickup.
