I have some actual inside info!

  • Our football ref clinics started last night, and one of my ref buddies rode with me to the clinic.

We got on the subject of baseball, and he was talking about Cory Seager because his son plays legion ball in the same league.

Well, he said they were playing Seagers team the day of the draft, and talked with his parents. He said they were very pro college, and that they were prepared to turn down $3 million.

I know thats just talk, but I thought it was interesting.

  • Would be awesome. Where would Pankake land if Seager does come to school? 3B? 1B?

I don't see any way Pankake is not our SS next year. This includes if Seager comes to USC. He could play 2nd, 1st, or an outfield spot. That year of experience means a LOT.

  • I think Seager would play 3B. He is projected there as a pro and Pankake really came on with the glove. LB would probably play 1B in that scenario. Reports ive seen said similar things bc his brother had a good experience at UNC and shot up the system fast bc of it.

Interesting. Gives me wood thinking about it.

  • When do go pro/go to college decisions have to be made?

    JIChicken

  • Don't see it happening, but if it does it provides a lot of options. A lot of interchanging between KMart, LB, and Seagar could take place with KMart as DH/1B, LB at 3B/1B/DH, and Seagar as 3B/DH. Against righthanders we could have 3 big left handed bats in the lineup.

Seems like it might be July 15th now.

I think it was during our game last night that they were talking about how much faster college players are getting to the bigs compared to high school now and that something like 65% of the MLB 40 man rosters went the college routes. Teams are now beginning to draft more college guys with their higher picks as well. I do not think Seager will step foot on Carolina Stadium, but if he does, it is because the family has experienced this first hand and is knowledgeable. Also, money is not as needed as most situations.

  • The Signing deadline is July 13th this year so we should know soon.

  • I'll believe it when I see it. We've had some kids turn down big money before, like Smoak and Havens, but we kinda knew they were coming to school ahead of time. This would be very surprising but great, if it happened.

  • Very slim chance of Seager wearing the garnet and lack. He gets 2.5 to 3 million. Rumor has it that his latest offer is at 2.7. No insider info, just live in north charlotte ( not far from his hs) and people know I am a USC ulumni and we talk regularly about him and the chances. Pure 2nd hand info.

I do want to know what mom and dad did to raise 3 high level baseball players. Probably great genes and work ethic.

    gugi_SCgrad

  • He was on campus last month registering for classes, but i take that for what its worth...hard to turn down that kind of money

  • If this article is right the Dodgers have about 2.8 million left to sign Seager, their 2nd rounder and anybody over 100K drafted after round 10. Seagers slot is 1.95 while the 2nd is 610K but that guy probably will not get that full bonus. The question is how much will he get? Does he get 300K or closer to the 600K?

After looking again they can go over suggested slot by 5% and not lose a draft pick next year. Most teams seem to be doing this so add another $140k to their pool.

  • Dodgers signed a Cuban for 42 million yesterday. I doubt their international signings effect their draft signing but we can hope, right.
