BOTTOM 9 - Schrock grounds out. Iskenderian grounds out. Greiner is South Carolina's last hope. Greiner grounds out 4-3 to end the game. FINAL: Gardner-Webb 7 - Carolina 6. L: Seddon (1-1). The Gamecocks (31-11) travel to LSU with Friday night's game beginning at 8 p.m. on Cox Sports.
TOP 9 - John Harris leads off the inning with a single off of Seddon. Sacrifice bunt moves the runner to second base and Seddon will be replaced by Evan Beal. He gets a ground ball to short. Pankake tries to cut down the runner going to third base. Smart play, horrible execution. Throws it wide and to the screen. Runner comes around to score. He fields a bouncer towards first and steps on the bag himself for the second out of the inning, then a deep fly ball to right to end the inning. Gardner-Webb leads 7-6
BOTTOM 8 - Vergason grounds out 1-3. Pankake bounces a single through the left side. Dantzler gets fooled on a breaking ball away. Fans at the pitch for his 32nd strikeout of the year. Pankake gets picked off 1-3-6 to end the inning. Score tied 6-6.
TOP 8 - Fiori walks the leadoff hitter then gives up a wild pitch to Yelverton. Joel Seddon comes in to pitch and gives up a first pitch single to eight-hole hitter Johnson. Nine-hole hitter Hodge hits a first pitch single. That scores a run and puts runners on first and second. After failing to get a 1-1 bunt down, Nazzaro pops up to deep second for the out. Two-hole hitter Rundio up and he takes a couple of inside sliders for strikes. Seddon catches a break. Rundio fouls off a couple of pitches to hang tough with Seddon. Rundio hits a slow roller to Pankake at short. He makes a nice charge play. Throw is low but Dantzler picks it before it hits the dirt. Runners move up as Jackson digs in. He's going to be walked intentionally to face Coleman. Breaking ball in the dirt blocked up well by Greiner. Down and away slider called a strike. Nice pitch. 1-1 on the count. Slow roller to Vergason's left. He cuts it off but loses the baseball on the exchange. Was going to be a really tough play. Ruled an error. Tough call. Real tough call. That's three errors tonight. Seddon ahead in the count 1-2 and gets a big strikeout to end the inning. Score tied 6-6
BOTTOM 7 - Schrock bounces out 3-1 to begin the inning. Nice play by G-W there to get the leadoff man. Celek singles back up the middle to put one on for Grayson Greiner. Shon Carson pinch runs. Hit-and-run single to the left side. Nice play by the shortstop to keep it on the infield and keep Carson at second base. Another hit-and-run play and Bright delivers. Sharp single off the glove of the diving first baseman and into right. Carson scores easily, Greiner moves to third base. Costen goes down on strikes but Bright took second on a ball in the dirt during the at-bat to put two in scoring position. Saiko flies out to left. He's the only player who hasn't been on base tonight for Carolina. Vergason has a pair of walks but is 0-2. Saiko is 0-5. Carolina leads 6-4
TOP 7 - Jackson grounds out to second base to begin the inning. Coleman singles to center to give the Runnin' Bulldogs a base runner with one down for the dangerous Collins. Fiori gets him out for the first time in the game on a pop out to shallow right. Two down, runner on first base. Harris hits one on the screws but it's right to Bright in right field to end the inning. Carolina leads 5-4.
BOTTOM 6 - Vergason walks to put the leadoff man on in the inning. Hit-and-run play on and Pankake fans. Vergason isn't fast and tries to turn around and go back to the bag. Doesn't work. Tagged out. Pankake pops out and Dantzler grounds out to end in the inning. Carolina leads 5-4.
TOP 6 - The internet isn't working much around here, folks. I just missed the entire top of the sixth trying to figure it out. There was a runner on third base with Vince Fiori on the mound. G-W tries a suicide squeeze with an 0-1 count. Pitch bounces, Greiner fields, and tags the runner out before he can reach the dirt. After a strikeout, the inning is done.
BOTTOM 5 - Dantzler singles to right to begin the inning but Schrock pops out to center. One down. Celek up and hits a bouncer to the right of the shortstop. Hodge fields and fires to second base. Johnson drops the ball for some reason. Never controlled it so both runners are safe. Greiner up and cranks the first pitch to the wall in right center. Both runners on base score. One run is earned, another unearned as Greiner glides to second for his sixth double of the year. Bright flies out to center. Costen lines a single back off the pitcher and into left center. That scores Greiner and the Gamecocks have the lead. Saiko bounces back to the mound to end the inning. Carolina leads 5-4
TOP 5 - Jackson singles through the left side and Coleman is hit to put two on base with no outs for Collins, who has two hits today already. Collins hits a liner back up the middle. Costen plays it perfectly and throws a strike home. The throw is right on the plate and right at Grayson Greiner's face. Takes him a second to get the tag down as the runner slides in feet first. Umpire calls him out. Was a really, really close play. My initial hunch was out but I'm not sure on that. G-W head coach argues but stands as called, obviously. It was a great play by Costen though, I'll say that. Harris hits a high pop fly to deep left. Saiko is drifting towards it and he just drops it. Dropped it. Run comes in to score. Infield single ruled off of Vergason's glove. Hard hit right at him. Probably scored an error most places but a hit here loads the bases. Johnson hits a soft liner to Pankake at short. The runner at second is caught going in the wrong direction and he's doubled off to end the inning. G-W leads 4-2
BOTTOM 4 - Bright up and hits a check swing bouncer back to the mound. Costen doubles down the left field line then tags up and goes to third on a fly ball to the left field wall off the bat of Saiko. Vergason walks but Pankake pops out to right to end the inning. G-W leads 3-2.
TOP 4 - Yelverton singles to start the inning and he's bunted up to second base. Dantzler makes a nice diving play to his right. He hops up and flips to Holmes. Hodge is safe at first. Maybe Hodge is just that fast because he's 12-for-15 in stolen bases. That ends Holmes' day. He gives up seven hits in 3+ innings. Sullivan enters and gets a generous strike call on a 2-2 pitch. Umpire says leadoff hitter Nazzaro goes around when trying to check his swing. Beneficial. Rundio grounds sharply up the middle on a hit and run play. Not sure Schrock would have gotten there if he wasn't moving on the pitch. Beneficial. G-W leads 3-2
BOTTOM 3 - Vergason bounces out to second to begin the inning. Pankake grounds back up the middle. Hodge makes a nice diving stop just on his side of the bag. Hops up and throws a strike but it's a half step too late to get him. One on, one out. Hit and run puts runners at the corners as Dantzler puts a single through the four hole. One down and a 2-0 count for Schrock. He walks. Celek pops up to the catcher in foul territory. It's caught for the second out of the inning. Greiner up. He flies a 1-0 pitch to rigth center. Nazzaro ranges over and makes the catch for the final out of the inning. Gamecocks leave the bags juiced. It's 3-2 G-W.
TOP 3 - Holmes to the mound to start the third. Gets Jackson swinging and then Coleman to fly out to deep center. Two quick outs. Collins, who hit the two-RBI double, ropes a single to right but Holmes gets out of it retiring Harris to end the inning. G-W leads 3-2.
BOTTOM 2 - LB Dantzler leads off the inning with a double down the right field line. Hits off the bottom of the wall. Schrock up and he pops up in foul territory down the left field line. Shortstop ranges over and is there to make the play. He catches it and whirls around to be sure Dantzler isn't tagging. Shortstop drops the baseball. Umpire calls no catch. Break No. 1 of the day goes in favor of South Carolina as Schrock rips a single up the middle. Centerfielder bobbles it allowing Dantzler to score. No RBI for Schrock, who moves to second on a balk. Greiner, who just missed an RBI double, works a full count walk. Bright is up and shellacks a first pitch fastball over the head of the centerfielder. Runners had to freeze to be sure he didn't catch it and Nazzaro almost made a sports center catch. Costen goes down on a breaking ball in the dirt. Saiko pops out to center. G-W leads 3-2
TOP 2 - Johnson starts the inning with a line drive single to left field and is bunted to second base by Ryan Hodge. Leadoff hitter Nazzaro bounces to the right side. Schrock ranges over to make the play. Runner moves up to third base. Rundio flies out to the corner in right field to end the inning. Hard to see exactly where he's missing from this view in the press box but he's clearly missing somewhere because he's getting hit hard. G-W leads 3-0.
BOTTOM 1 - Couple quick outs for starting pitcher Hunter Smith. Gets Saiko to pop out and Vergason to strike out on a breaking pitch down in the zone. Pankake flies out to right to end the inning. G-W leads 3-0.
TOP 1 - No predetermined split tonight. Colby Holmes gives up a two line drive singles to start the game. One to the right of Pankake at shortstop and another back up the middle. Those were hit hard. He gets a pop out and a strikeout to give him two outs and he's almost escaped the inning. Collins comes up, leading the team in doubles and RBIs, and adds to both of those totals. He tattoos a pitch over Costen's head in center to clear the bases. He comes home on what is ruled a straight error on Max Schrock. Horrible scoring call. He went up the middle and tried a jump throw from behind the base. Dantzler can't dig it out or even block it up. Gets by him and to the screen bringing home another run. Holmes gets out of it with a ground ball to short. Pankake to Schrock for the force ends the inning. GW leads 3-0
South Carolina is the home team tonight.
This is an absolutely beautiful park. I wouldn't mind South Carolina playing a game her every year and I don't think that's out of the question. A lot of the seats are under cover and there are big ceiling fans hanging down. The playing surface looks very nice. Scoreboard in right center. It's 330 down both lines, 365 to the gaps and 400 feet to center.

South Carolina is the home team tonight.
9 hits in the first 4.1 innings. I will just say that is extremely disappointing.
I just saw Marcus Lattimore on Gruden's camp and just think this kid is a helluva good person. I hope nothing but the best for him and he truly is an inspiration for people including myself that are recovering from knee surgery.
Sorry this is probably not the proper place for this but as a Spartan fan I'm rooting for your guy too.
Soufflé, I'm straight, I scrape my plate/,Sade, I'm a smooth operator... I DROP TOP MY WHIP!
What can you say about the top of the 5th with the exception of the Costner/Greiner play at home and Pankake's DP other than very disappointing?
Saiko needs a night off to clear his head. He had the great clutch hit on Saturday but he was 1-13 for the weekend, 0-4 tonight with a dropped fly ball.
Wow what pleasant surprise....step away for 20 mins to eat and come back and we are ahead 5-4 and I missed an oddball play. I have to run an errand in 30 mins. Maybe when I get back we will have a bigger lead.
