Mid-week losses...

Every year there is constant gnashing of teeth about losing mid-week games during the season. I looked back at the majority of the Top 10 teams just to see how we stack up this season. There are approximate numbers but I think they are correct.
Florida State - lost 4, but 2 were to Florida
Baylor - lost 2
South Carolina - lost 3
LSU - lost 0, but did lose 2 of 3 to App St in an earlier series
FLA - lost 2
Rice - lost 3
A&M - lost 2
UNC - lost 2
Oregon - lost 2, but 1 was to Oregon State
Kentucky - lost 2, but both were to Louisville
It's hard to run the table.

Been a strange midweek year for us and alot of top teams. Hasnt been a case of losing due to using your 4th and 5th guy, most of the time it has been a lack of runs scored by the elite team.

You're correct. I said before the year that with freshmen like Montgomery, Seddon, and Beal and veterans like Westy and Belcher, we shouldn't have any trouble with mid-week games. I didn't expect our losses to come because of no offense.

CofC is not a bad loss, wofford and francis marion should have never happen. it is what it is, we are still in great shape

Did CoC, Wofford, and Francis Marion pitch their mid-week guys? It is strange how the bats seem to work so much better on weekends.

C of C pitched a guy who wasn't at that time a weekend guy. Wofford started a mid-week guy but brought in their lights-out closer who was extended into extra innings. FMU used 3 or 4 of their top 5 guys.

USC-Upstate is having a good year and may challenge the Gamecocks more so than they have in the past. I'm not sure they will throw their best pitcher during the mid-week game though since they are in contention for the Atlantic Sun title. I project a win either way as I think the Gamecocks are gearing up for a long postseason run.

Don't forget about klimpson. They have lost to a lot of smaller schools, haven't they?
Good breakdown, MCR. I wouldn't have thought the losses would have come due to lack of offense before the season started. At the beginning of the year, I don't think any of us thought we would be blowing anyone out.
The improvement in our young guys' bats this season has been pretty drastic. I have been beyond impressed with English, Greiner, Pankake, Martin etc. Vergy has made HUGE strides at the plate.
Guys like Greiner and English do not come around very often.
Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.
