Agree. While I am glad we attract top talent, I wish it was the number 4 or 5 third baseman who projects to be a 5th rounder, so we have a legit chance at signing him.

I don't agree...our coaches do a great job of having a plan A,B, C & D. If you had a chance to sign the top 10 players in the country you would and it would be great as long as you signed 10 more to cover when the first 10 signed. Plus you might get lucky and get one in school. Baseball recruiting is a juggling act and our coaches are world class jugglers.

Yeah, I see no harm in it. He's a great player who if we continue to get commitments from 4-5 of these type of guys, we're much more likely to get 1 to campus than if we have no commitments of this caliber. Agree with the previous post on having multiple guys committed/signed.

Certainly there is no harm in it. It is just hard for me to get too excited about guys who are almost definitely going to be first round picks.

Better to sign them and have a chance of them wearing garnet and black than letting them go because you think they'll probably go pro and leave a chance you'll have to play against them for 3 years. If we don't get the best someone else in our league will....

Correct. Perfect Game. They're really the only reputable site, in my opinion, that does national rankings. I like Diamond Prospects for state rankings, but Perfect Game is where it's at nationally.

He hasn't been drafted yet, he's a 2013 kid. You can't draft them until they complete high school, which he hasn't.
Whittle is saying he will be drafted early.
You never know, I am going to hold out a little hope that he comes, because that is what I do.

Get excited because the program is attracting the best players in the country. That said it's a shame we lose so many guys to the draft, but that's life. 1 or 2 is bound to stay eventually.

I don't know anything about this kid but he sounds like Lonnie Chisenhall who coming out of high school you just knew he would start the minute he walked onto campus.
Best of luck to him. Maybe he'll decide college is what he needs for a few years.

Speaking of which, does anyone know who the highest ranked player is that is coming next year, and where he was ranked?
I am guessing Schrock, Iskenderian, or Britt?
Tanner English is the highest ranked from last year at #50, which is very good to get someone that highly ranked to school.

Here's what I saw from a Georgia top-50 for 2013. He's #1, of course.
1. Travis Demeritte Widner-Barrow High 6ft 2in 175lb SS
Demeritte is a flashy middle infielder that has 5 tools. He runs the sixty in 6.60, throws 91 MPH, jolts balls with man power and can pick you clean on defense. Demeritte plays his summer baseball for the East Cobb Astros and is part of a talented core group of players in their program. He is used to winning and could be a 1st rounder in 2013. He was the Athens Banner Herald Player of the Year in 2011 with these eye popping stats:
He drove in a team-high 46 runs and hit a team-high 10 home runs and finished the season with a team-high .622 slugging percentage. He also scored 42 runs and hit for a .413 average.
