There needs to be a set standard like player of the year, 2 time all american, 3 time all sec, etc in order to get the plaque imho. Otherwise we would honor players, that while great dont reach the standards of a kip bouknigh and earl bass who were national players of the year. I love wingo, but he is not nearly the player that many of those guys were.

I believe that National Championship MOP qualifies. I agree that there should be certain criteria to have a jersey retired. But there will be some names that will be considered for attributes and qualities outside of those set standards. I believe that Wingo is a perfect example of that.

I think setting the criteria in stone would eliminate some who for various reasons weren't at USC or weren't able to play as long as others. I'm not saying one great year should definitely get you in, but ONLY one great year shouldn't keep you out either. For instance: Randy Martz was 14-0 and Mookie Wilson hit .357 with 8 HR and 33 RBI in 1977, their only season at Carolina.

This is an interesting topic. I tend to side with the "complete body of work" when it comes to this kind of thing. While the guys you mentioned were great players, they were great players for 1 year and I would rather reward a 3 or 4 year player with lesser stats. Don't get me wrong, you still have to be a stud to get on this list but the long term dedication to the program should be rewarded.
Mac White should be on the list. He is in the gamecock HOF. Wingo, while one of my alltime favorites...is borderline. The best defensive 2nd baseman we've ever had, offensive stats would not match up to others that would be on the list....but he does have 2 rings.
Roth, Price, Bouknight (??), Smoak, Powell, Myers, JBJ - Shoe ins
There are a bunch that need to be on the list.
