The little dugout dust-up ...

  • I don't think that Roth was thinking so far ahead as to try to rally the team. He is a competitor, and was frustrated at that point. From what I have heard, Koumas was frustrated for getting pulled, and the frustration between him and Roth was like static electricity, and it just arced out between them. Holbrook had to get in between the two for a second, but I doubt they would have fought.

Roth, BTW, is a good hitter. If he does not make it as a pitcher, do ya'll think he could make it as a 1st bagger and hitter? He is an athlete, there is no doubt about that.

It was a minor verbal exchange in the dugout that has been blown out of proportion. I thought the initial post, minus Beal's name, explained what happen well enough. Content of arguments typically stay within the team.

This thread is why Andy Demetra should have keep his mouth shut...the media does not need to talk about things that go on in the locker room or dugout because fans do not need to know every minor thing that is between teammates. Now if Roth had of come out of the dugout and conked Beal over the head with a bat that would be worth a mention. At Carolina Stadium Demetra would not have even seen it because he can't see the players in the dugout from his point of view.

Well your info is bad because Koumas didn't have anything to do with it.

No. He's not an every day college level hitter in my opinion and not a pro as a position player.

Roth has had plenty of time to win a job as a hitter and hasn't done it. I love the guy but he's a All-America level pitcher and just an average college hitter. He is capable but I don't think he would ever be a stand-out hitter.

I knew nothing at all. I just wanted to know what happened. I was told this morning that some of our players had an altercation with some Arkansas fans. I pay money here to get correct info, so why should I feel in the wrong for asking???????

I doubt there is a story to tell. It happens in every locker room, every sideline, every dugout. It gets intense and emotions run high sometimes.

I disagree with some of the guys on this board that I hang out with at games. But it only lasts about 15 seconds and we move on to the next play.

I'm pretty sure they were all high fiving and laughing with each other after the game.

Why would you just post something that is inaccurate, no need to just guess and try and make up what went on, espcially when you don't have a clue.

I could see it going one of two ways if it happened at Carolina Stadium -- First of all, everyone would have noticed it so...

    1) Everyone would have realized it wasn't a big deal and it wouldn't have been brought up, but more than just Andy would have mentioned it at the time.

    2) Everyone would have seen it and thought it was a big deal and there would be a half dozen stories written about it with lots of folks asked for on-the-record comments.

Andy was just doing his job. Since the game wasn't on TV and no one really saw it, then it has prompted a lot of questions, and I can understand that. That being said, everything I've been told (and to reiterate, I wasn't there) was it was a minor thing. I don't think anyone has really done anything wrong, it's probably just something that doesn't need to be rehashed over and over again.

For the record, that sounds like a Three Stooges routine. Maybe they'll start doing one of those instead of a back flip. That'd provide some new entertainment!

Because Arkansas is doggone good and winning anywhere on the road in the SEC is tough especially Arkansas where it seems like none of our teams ever play well. We swept them in 2010 out there and I believe that was our first series win there in years at that point. Those 11 straight wins came against the bottom third of the conference. With a TBA Saturday starter against Baxendale and them having overall one of the best staffs in the nation, I too thought we'd have a very tough time winning the series. Most anyone without garnet glasses on would...tremendous effort by the Gamecocks.

    LOL,

I thought Beal was trying to drink Rapters water.

  • Guys can we just drop it? Why make something out of nothing? Team morale and cohesiveness has never seemed higher. I understand the inquisitiveness but now that we've all got the story, or lack thereof, can we just focus on the great weekend and our standing in the conference/nation?

This happens all the time. Athletes are competitors, competitors are aggressive, aggressiveness leads to confrontation. Therefore, athletes are very used to confrontation and move on quickly afterward. I suggest us fans do the same.
