The new bats

  • What do ya'll think about the new bats? It was getting pretty dangerous for pitchers and third basemen with the balls coming off of those composite bats at close to 110 mph, but offense is pretty hard to come by now.

I don't think we will ever see 5 HR in a row again. Still, when Walker gets ahold of one like he did yesterday, he can still get one out in a hurry.

I wish there was something in between, though. You ought to have to put a decent swing on one to get it out, but the games can be a hair boring nowadays.

  • The college game is much better since they toned down the bats. In my opinion the aluminum bat should produce precisely the same ball speed as a wood bat - hopefully we'll get there eventually.

Disagree completely. Even guys like Ben McDonald and Kyle Peterson don't like it. I agree that the last era of bats is not the way either. But, I think they could find something in between that suits all. When you see a guy bunting over a player in the first inning, that is not baseball to me. It is in the majors, but those are the elite players. Just don't like the current bats at all.

  • Bats are fine made the game more realistic again. Kid from Samford has what 23 Hr's and a teammate with 15. To put it into perspective it cut Wingo's Hr totals in half from 2010 to 2011.

  • If I am not mistaken, don't the new BBCOR bats hit pretty much the same as wood bats. I thought I read somewhere that they are pretty much the same. Is this not right?

  • I think they went too far with the changes. I would at least like them to tweak the bats again and maybe give us back 30-40% of what they lost.

I think Kyle Peterson made a good point about TD Ameritrade and how it wasn't designed for such dead bats. Had they known earlier, I bet they would have put the fences 10 or so feet closer.

  • Answer to offense per Peterson would be to alter baseballs. Make them more like the Majors. Tighten and make seams smaller.

Really good point - like that idea.
