WWBA Championship updates

  • The U-17 World Wood Bat Association national championship begins today (Friday) and lasts through next Thursday. I'll be in and out of Marietta, Ga. over the next week seeing various South Carolina commitments and targets. I'll update this thread throughout the course of the week with some news and notes.

This morning I saw 2013 RHP target Wil Crowe pitch for the Knoxville Stars. He's a big boy standing about 6-3, 235 pounds. Has a very good fastball that sits 89-90 and will scrape 92. He's a competitor out there, too, which is always something that South Carolina coaches have put a premium on. He had some players make some defensive miscues behind him and he kept his composure. South Carolina is in the thick of it. Teams to watch are Kentucky, Tennessee, and Clemson, I think.

I also saw catcher Logan Koch, a 2013 commit, take some swings today in the cage. He's a switch hitter and I really like the way he's starting to look physically. He's gotten a lot stronger since I saw him last winter and his swing has improve as well - looked really good from the right side today and I like him from the left, too. He was first recruited as a plus-defensive guy but he has gotten to the point that he can really handle the bat. Look forward to seeing him in game action tonight.

I'm going to see the Canes today (Friday) at 2 p.m. In addition to Koch tonight with his Dirtbags team at 7 p.m. at the complex, Best 9, with RHP/OF Taylor Widener and OF Tray Roberts are also playing. Widener is pitching.

If you live in the Marietta area, this is a real cool event to drop by and see for a couple days. If you're thinking about coming, shoot me a PM when and I'll let you know who is playing where -- or you can just check the schedule at www.PerfectGame.com.

***Some of the updates this week will be free and others premium.

When I was younger, I had a bumper sticker that said, "If I owned Hell & Clemson, I would rent out Clemson and live in Hell"
