Where did all this velo come from with Webb?

  • He's been an 89-90 guy that occasionally bumped 91-92. Last week he's throwing 92 after 92 to Clemson. I figured he was pumped up from the whole "soft" thing. Then tonight he was consistently 92 again and hit 94 and 96 which is something I'm pretty sure he hasn't done here. I'm really looking forward to him coming back next year.

  • 94? 96? Really? I didn't see that. Was that on the stadium gun? I saw a few 91s on ESPN but didn't watch the reading on every pitch. If he really hit those numbers and they're legit, wow. He's looking good regardless.

  • Stadium gun. I did see Roth hit 89 twice in the 8th as well. Gun might need to be calibrated again.

  • His first pitch was 92 on the ESPN graphic. I thought that was high for Webb but I like it.

I think the gun is a little off, but he is certainly throwing some gas! I made a comment to a friend in the top of the ninth about how his velocity looked on TV.

  • Rosenburg's mitt popped a couple of times with Roth pitching. Never really heard that before.

  • Webb was throwing hard, but the stadium gun can be a little erratic . I don't think we have the best angle for that gun to be consistently accurate .

I think ESPN has their own gun. Look on the backstop right behind the plate. They have something back there mounted on the screen.

I saw the 94 on the stadium gun . Didn't see the 96 . I'll try to remember to check the ESPN reading on the replay . Every now and then on the stadium gun you get some really off-the-wall number .

I don't think the stadium gun is in the same place. I see that bracket up there but it is empty. Not sure where it is in the stadium now.

Either way I am glad to see Webb come out there in command. He looks confident and ready to pitch.

I guess if Magnifico (sp) gets on the mound he will blow the gun up.

I saw the 94 too. What I've noticed is if the radar number really unexpected it's a low number. Fast ball numbers seem to be consistent to me. Not sure how accurate or comparable to standards but consistent. As for Webb he has been impressive in his last two appearance and there is no doubt that he has picked up a little velocity.

  • I saw the 94 and he was consistently 92 on the replay this morning. His velo has definately increased the last few weeks.
