Will Roth pitch against Manhattan?

No way I don't think. Not with our issues in the rotation. You save Roth for game 2 to either stave off elimination or get through to a championship game with no loses.

I'd think you throw Holmes. Don't want a true freshman leading us off in game 1. Go with more experience I think and save Roth for game 2 that Wil be huge either way. Game 3 go with Montgomery.

I think Jordan could go given the fact he pitched very well against Vandy last week and led off the SEC tourney. I'd love to see him start us off I know it's a risk but he can have a short leash with Beal waiting on him.

Montgomery is the best bet and Beal can back him up. You have Roth ready for Game 2, then Holmes after that.

We don't often have an opener against a Manhattan. Last year it was Georgia Southern so Roth got the start. In 2010 we opened with Bucknell and Dyson started rather than Cooper. I don't think Roth will start against Manhattan. It could certainly bite us but if that happens, we don't deserve to win.

Manhattan 1-3 vs Florida Atlantic, 0-4 vs Maryland, 0-3 vs High Point, 1-3 vs West Virginia and 0-3 vs TCU. Not sure who he went 11-1 against but SC shouldn't be too concerned!

I would go with Holmes, Roth and then Montgomery.
I realize this is risky, but I believe it is a risk we need to take this year.

I understand what Tanner has always done and if he does it again, it won't be the wrong decision. However, Manhattan is not the same #4 seed that a SoCon school would be. If they didn't have an ace, they wouldn't be here, but they aren't on the same level we are.

Although Ray almost always throws his ace in game one, he's never had Clemson in the regional either, and he knows Roth is a tiger slayer.
This regional is one we should win, but if both Clemson and USC advance to the second day, it's going to be an intense, highly-charged game. I think he makes a small gamble against Manhatten because Roth is the best pitcher to handle that pressure.

By the way, that "ace" has made 22 appearances but only 6 starts. I bet his nickname is vulture. The three guys with the most starts are:
6-5 with a 3.43 in 13 starts
2-5 with a 5.50 in 11 starts
2-4 with a 4.19 in 9 starts
They do have a closer who is 1-1 with 8 saves and a 1.31 ERA so we need to make him a non-factor.

Manhattan's ace threw 11 innings yesterday, 9 innings Friday and 2 innings saturday. I don't know if I have ever heard of such!
here's the link to their schedule and you can check their stats and stuff as well. I think they may have to start their #2 as much as they used this kid the past 72 hours.

Their Friday night starter the last 2 weeks of conference play was John Soldinger 6-5 3.43 ERA ba/avg against is 259. The guy that is 11-1 appears to be mainly a reliever with 22 appearances but only 6 games started!

Depends who wins 1st game - ---- if Clemson wins Holmes will throw. If Coastal wins Roth will throw. Clemson is heavy with left handed hitters - Coastal is heavy with righties.

Soldinger has been first team all-MAAC for two years . The other guy , Taylor Sewitt , has been hot lately especially in their tournament .

Mahanttan had to run through the losers bracket during the MAAC tourney. They lost the first game and then had to win 3 straight in 3 days. That is why that one pitcher pitched so much. When the only way you are going to make the NCAA tourney is to win your conference tourney, you have to pull out all the stops in order to win.
I think you pitch Monty game 1, Roth against Clemson/Costal, and then Holmes to close it out.

He was a reliever until the TCU series when he went 9 innings and only gave up 2 runs against a pretty good team.
