With the way Arky looked vs Webb, Monty - do you start Belcher?

  • Belcher's problem has been home runs. Not much of a problem there. They have looked bad against Webb and Monty this week. Just a thought. Get 4 or 5 innings out of the starter and turn it over to Webb and Price.

  • I guess I'm the only one thinking it but I say start Webb, he completely fooled them Monday and what...have we now thrown something like 14 straight scoreless innings with lefties against them?

  • I'm with you Bluegrass! Start Webb and let him go as long as he can go. Even if it's 5 innings and then use the last 4 innings for Holmes, Belcher, Beal and Price.

Agree. Webb just pitched close to 90 pitches. Holmes should be good to go.

  • Nolan is a little different pitcher as he relies on breaking pitches vs a great change.

I have confidence in Nolan as he's pitched well this year against good teams.

Still, it'd be hard not to give the ball to Colby and try to get four or five solid ones out of him before we turn it over to Webb and price for the last four.

Either way, we are going to need to find a way to get to six runs tomorrow. We are due for a good offensive game. Have struggled since the first.

  • Colby makes me nervous. I shouldn't say that, but, gosh, his pitches were ALL belt high the other day. He is very good when he is on, but it can go downhill in a hurry when you leave pitches up like that. He did that against Florida, and it was what, 7-0 in the first inning.

I would go Koumas, but it will be Holmes. Tanner said Webb was ready this morning against KSU, so Webb will be available. The starter will have a short leash, so we will see.

Ally will beat the crap out of Uga.

  • Koumas did great last time. Put him in there and be ready to use every pitcher. I am fine with doing a pitcher per inning. I am sure our coaches will be right on par, like the always seem to be.

Belcher's real problem IMO has been his erratic nature throughout most of his career. He can be going strong and then walk one, hit one, and then the homer comes. He's been a lot better this season though. I think Colby will respond well. He pitched brilliantly against Manhattan, was settling in nicely when the rain ended his night against Okie, and was up just a bit against the oinkers which is of course when he gets in trouble. I have full faith our coaches will make the right choices regarding pitching, and with probably everybody save Jordy (I think even Roth might be available for the right or wrong situation depending on how you want to look at it) should be available. Matty only threw 16 last night, and hadn't pitched since Saturday so he should be good for an extended save if needed. For having our backs against the wall I think the pitching is in about as strong of a position as it can be thanks to the hellacious efforts of Roth,Webb, Roth again, and Jordy. Matty of course has been clutch and gotten us 2 saves. Would be nice to get some early runs and give Colby some extra confidence. One more thing... for the scouts who said CW is a below average defensive 1B he gave you a nice steaming cup of STFU last night. What an effort by him.

  • My biggest concern is they just faced Holmes, they know exactly what he is bringing to the table, they saw him 4 days ago. We just need to put up runs against Baxendale, that is all that matters. Their bats will not beat us, but their arms can.

They faced Holmes, but it was not the version of Colby we're used to seeing. He was up in the zone and that's when he gets in trouble. If he's down in the zone he's a totally different guy, and not someone they've seen this year since he was on the shelf when we played them at Baum. I'm sure they'll have a very short leash on him, but like you said we need to get runs off Baxendale, and do it EARLY.

We have a lot of guys sitting on ready. Holmes is good to go. Webb would certainly be ready for an inning or two. Beal and Belcher have a full tank. Price is ready to close it out. The only way we could be in a better position is to have Roth on the mound. I think it's all about the bats tonight.

I honestly think if a situation arose that they felt Roth was the best arm for they'd run him out there for a batter or maybe an inning if necessary.
