  • Tim Quarterman - A 6'6" PG. That's tall for a PG isn't it? Although I do like the idea, especially if he has the ball and body control of a 6 footer. What are our chances with this guy?

Around 6'5". If he could shoot, I think he would be a great PG.

Do you like Lakeem at kind of a point-forward, WG. He is our best passer, imo. He is one of the quickest, and is one of the best slashers as well. I like the guy. Do you see Jackson playing a larger role under Martin? I think Martin is going to love the guy. You can get past the shooting with everything else he brings to the table, don't you think?

Does Thornwell, and/or Peake have a top 5, WG?

Hopefully Martin is able to get all the guys to play with better control. If he can do that, then maybe Jackson might be able to play point. I think that if Smith can get his confidence back up, he would be good for us also.

I watched him a lot more this weekend and am still not sold he is a true point guard. I think he is a better wing than he is a true point guard.

If South Carolina pushes for Quarterman I think they will be a legit contender.

I think South Carolina is in strong shape to land Thornwell. Have to watch out for Georgetown, Villanova and Ohio State.

Yes, I don't mind Lakeem as a point forward kind of guy and I think that is what Horn and his staff envisioned a little but after Lakeem's foot injury he was never really the same. The tried to force a square peg into a round hole this past season with it and did not have the shooters to help Lakeem be a successful point guard.

No, Thornwell and Peak do not have a top 5 at the moment. They are pretty open.

  • Any news on Montrezl Harrell. ESPN reported he had asked to be released from his LOI from VT. Any news on that situation, and the chances we get involved? If we do get involved, what kind of shot do we have to land him?

  • WG, do you think that grades were, in fact the reason that they decided not to take Haughton?

Also, didn't you say that you thought that Minda has the highest ceiling out of our recruits? How long until he starts providing us with a steady amount of offense?

Who do you think are the top 3 scorers for the Gamecocks next year?

It is possible. He has to get his release from Virginia Tech which is being held up by the Hokies. I am not sure why they are doing it. I think they are going to block the ACC schools and then we will see what happens.

I do not know all the details. Speaking with people in South Florida I am not sure how bad his grades really are. I think he could qualify for 90% of the schools out there.

I think Minda could be very good but I like Hall the most. He could be a special player for the Gamecocks. For Minda it just depends on how long it takes him to adjust to the physical nature of the SEC.

Hard to say on the scorers. A wild, wild guess would be Hall, Ellington and maybe Leonard or Brenton Williams.

Apparently there are no restrictions as to which school he can attend. Getting the attention of some big time programs (Kentucky is one).

  • One last question WG,

Carlos Morris and Ian Baker are still available? What's the latest on those two and is there any interest in them from the new staff?

Early group of schools according to his father is North Carolina State, Florida, Alabama, Kentucky and Louisville. South Carolina is going to inquire into his status and see if there is any interest and they will go from there.

Baker committed to Providence. Morris is still available but will likely end up at junior college.

Yes, if UNC were to offer that could be a problem for South Carolina as they have been Thornwell's dream school. We will see what happens though because they already have Nate Britt and Isaiah Hicks. They are also after Julius Randle and Troy Williams. Williams is the most likely guy they could land as he is between them and Kentucky. If he picks the Tar Heels, they won't take Thornwell.

I am so sick I could puke about SC basketball players whose "dream school" is UNC! Frank Martin can recruit from NY to Miami. I would love to see us go recruit some good players without having to worry about getting UNC's leftovers! If there is a player who dreams of playing at UNC, leave them alone and go get someone else.

not every kid who grows up loving unc ends up wanting to be there and, moreover, most of them are not going to get an offer from unc just as thornwell has not yet received one. sc needs to recruit these kids regardless and cannot avoid kids based on childhood bias or fear that unc could swoop in late and steal them. if it happens it happens but most of the time it will not.

It is a dead period, he could not go anywhere. Dead period is all the way through next Sunday so I am not sure what his plans are but will be finding out tomorrow.

It is either South Carolina or Providence for him based on what I am told.
