Dawn Staley recruit for 2013 ?

  • On the Hoopgurls site Dawn has one verbal commitment listed for 2013 so far (guard Mia Cooper). However, on Twitter she has dropped a few hints that another might be on the way . A 6-5 post player . And a birthday tweet yesterday added the phrase "Irmo is the place to be this am" . Could it be Alaina Coates of Dutch Fork ? Coates is ranked #15 in the country by Blue Star Basketball and #20 by Hoopgurls . It's not clear from the tweets whether the "big girl" has already verbally committed or is just strongly considering USC . Of course, the 2013 commitments won't sign until November, and Dawn can't mention the name of anyone unsigned.
    Also, in her season wrapup on the USC site, Dawn said they are not necessarily finished recruiting for 2012 . Next signing period for 2012 begins April 11, I think .

  • Sounds good to me. I was struck at the height difference between the Lady G's and the other teams in the NCAA. 6'5" would be a nice addition. Coach Staley sure can recruit! hoops

  • That would be a nice piece to the girls team a 6 foot 5 player will give Dawn a threat down low on offense and defense.

    Talking to an AAU coach, Dawn's got a line on at least three girls 6'6" already for the 2013 & 2014 classes, plus a legacy guard. SC women's hoops is going to step into the big time over the next 5 years or so, hopefully the fan base will step up and support.

    Yeah Dawn has this team going to the top. Big time pick up 6 5 Juco player.

    I think maybe you may have gotten some exaggerated info.

    Espn lists 60 rated girls in next years class, the tallest is 6'5 and there are two at 6'4.

    25 rated in the next class with no 6'6.

    They might have grown since they were measured. You never know. Espn is a little late in all their bball ratings.

    I would like to know about Alaina Coates too.
