As Whittle just posted, we have been informed that Michael Carrera will not play tonight.
The Gamecocks just re-took the floor and went through lay up lines and Carrera participated in them. Obviously with the Gamecocks set to fly to Mexico tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. and have back to back games on the weekend, this is pre-caution to make sure he is prepared for those games.
I am surprised though as Carrera just went through complete warm-ups and seemed perfectly fine.
Hopefully we will learn more after the game on his situation.

Carrera going back through pre-game warm ups. You have to wonder if the staff is a little afraid to tell him that he is not playing tonight. Would be an interesting staring contest between he and Martin.

I was joking about the staff not telling Carrera he was not playing but watching his reaction on the bench, I am honestly starting to wonder if he knows he is not playing. Every time Martin goes to make a substitution, Carrera gets all excited like he is the guy that is going in. He has stood up twice.
Elon getting after the Gamecocks early on, out hustling them and making some baskets inside. The Phoenix also being very physical with the Gamecocks inside as they have taken a 9-3 lead with 15:54 to go.

The Gamecocks had five turnovers in the first four minutes and only took three shots.
After falling behind 11-3, they have responded with an Eric Smith three and Lakeem Jackson put back to trim the lead to 11-8.
The Phoenix really getting in the chest of the Gamecocks making it difficult to get their passes off and the person receiving the pass has to do a little work to get open. Right now they are playing a little lazy.
Watching Carrera, he is still very active on the bench, yelling orders to players on the floor, cheering when something good happens. He is a very passionate individual.

South Carolina looking lethargic tonight this far, shots also not dropping right now which is something that Frank Martin talked about in his last press conference.
Martin keeps substituting hoping to find a spark however there does not appear to be a guy over there right now that can provide that.

Agreed. Sloppy defense, sloppy offensive sets, careless passing, poor shooting...
We'll turn it on eventually, but it's frustrating to watch right now. 11 TO, 2 assists.

The score was 15-12 with 11:35 to go in the half, at the 4:19 mark it is 28-15 Elon. That is a solid 13-3 run over the last seven minutes and the Phoenix looking to add to it as Austin Hamilton goes to the line for two. He gets neither and the lead stays 13.
Very little if any energy from anybody in the area that is pulling or playing for the Gamecocks.
